I need an FTP program (preferably free) that'll let me transfer files direct from one web server to another. (I'm changing web host providers and don't want to hassle with downloading files to my PC, then back up to the new server.)

The new server will need to be running a communcation service of some kind, probably FTP but SSH would be great (even preferable). I believe Fallon was implying that you could log into a shell (think DOS prompt) on your old server and then use a command line ftp client to send your files to the new server.
The first thing that you need to determine is what transfer capabilities exist oin the new server. Find that out and we can help you determine how to best take advantage of it. |

you could probably just use IE
ftp://ipaddress:portnumber sometimes ws_ftp acts up on my work pc and instead I use IE to xfer files from the ftp server.

Here's an example of what I have done.
I've logged into my shell, completely backed up my stuff on the site(basically zipping up a dir) typed in "ftp (some other host)" Entered in my username and pass, then typed "put (zipped up filename)" Then on the new host I've unzipped the file. If this is all gibberish, myself or one of the other members will explain it more indepth. |
