Pfft!
I'm running as my main computer a AMD 400 mhz with lots of old hardware. This one is generally running all the time. I've also got like 10(at least) 100-166 and maybe even a 200 mhz in my room that I can install any OS on at a moments notice. I don't have these running for the most part, but I occassionally toss on an OS to test something, like I did have one of them set up with Smoothwall linux as my dial-up server and such. |

woot, looks like so far I win!
I have two fairly old computers that I use on a daily basis. One is a server box that is 5 years old now that is a p3 600mhz. the other is acting soley as a router. Pentium 100mhz. Its got some strange amount of ram (as much as I could find). this is just one that I use everyday. As far as oldest, I would probably be beaten, because oldest is only a 486dx66 since I no longer have my 286

I've a got celeron 400 with 256mb ram and a voodoo 3. I use it mostly as a test platform. Right now it's running windows 2003 server, and it's a little slow for that duty. I've been considering putting longhorn on it.

Pentium 1 120, I got that computer in 1995 and I occasionally use it. It does Word, Internet, AIM, and a few other tasks. I have been meaning to put Windows 98 on it, but I am afraid it will be too slow...

I have a pIII 600 here I use as my windows machine (when I want to listen to the baseball game and mlb.com uses streaming proprietary realplayer).
Back at home, there's a proxy/gateway machine that's a p2 350, or something along those lines. |

Console server: P166, originally purchased in 1996. I only use it once every few days, to debug hosed machines. HD and PSU were replaced last summer.
My fileserver (formerly a workstation) was 5 years old when it died recently (was a dual P3-600, originally a P2-450). Replaced it with a VIA C3 1.2GHz. It runs nice, quiet, and cool now.

I've got a 6 or 7 year old Pentium 200 laptop that I've tossed a Cisco wireless card into that I use for wardriving sometimes - but for the most part, my oldest is a 4 year old Duron system.

I've got a P2 450, and P2 500 running right now. Five and four years old respectively. There's also a P4 2.2 and a Centrino here, but they're not really old. I don't think the P2's have been upgraded (except for RAM) since we bought them.
But the oldest monitor I have was bought in 1995. Best monitor I have ever owned. It's 17", and a tad large, but it's got knobs for contrast and brightness. One flick of the wrist and you can turn both down to zero and have the screen completely black. No "hold down that button" nonsense to change contrast and brightness. Samsung Syncmaster 17Gli. my oldest daily use (as in 24x7, 365 days) is the Gateway PIII 650 that acts as my server. the other three on my main desk have a mean system speed of 1.3 ghz
I did add my dad's old Pentium 200 to my clan and that will likely see daily use as either a *nix box or keep on working as a win98 system. This system has a 1997 Tyan AT mainboard that is maxed out at 200 mhz and 64 MB of ram. also has a Diamond (? I forget now) 4 MB video card and other things fromt that era.

I find it hard to tell th exact age of the computers i use frequently. Every few months it seems i am replacing some part or another. Of course for the oldest that I have and still use ocassionally when I want to play some games from when I was a kid I an 8088 machine with a whopping 20 megs totatly between the two harddrives. Sometime in the future I will also be setting up my TI-99 4/A and commadore 64. but htey wont be used on a weekly bassis so i guess they dont count.

my everyday usage computer, the only one i have and the one i am currently typing on right now, is a p2 running at 533mhz. it's got about 196 megs of ram and a 6 gig hard drive. i run win2k, and it runs pretty well, despite its age. it's a good basic computer with a bit of functionality, but it's not even comparable to most machines out there these days. this is my one and only machine.

My desktop is some 9 months old, which I update regularly with new goodies.
My server is an olde P166 running debian (it used to be a Pentium 60). Technically, the shell of that computer is olde - it's an IBM machine I got from my former employer. FYI, that P60 was one of the first Intel made, with the accompanying calculation bug. I also own a HP laptop with a pentium 133, which came with a one-speed external scsi cd-rom drive (build in '97). |
