Mouse Question
Greetings Everyone,
I think the extended sessions of UT 2004 have finally done my mouse in. 'Tis time for a new one. Has anyone tried the new Logitech MX 510 or the new Microsoft InteliiMouse. I am completely and utterly satisified with my old Microsoft 3.0 but I was just wondering what and if any one of you had used those mice. Thanks for any info, suggestions, etc.

I carry few others with my opinion, but I have to suggest staying away from optical mice for gaming. After using optical mice for gaming and then going back to ball mice, the precision control you have with a ball is unrivalled with an optical mouse. Don't get me wrong, I know that everyone loves optical mice, especially for browsing Windows, but when it comes to gaming, a ball mouse can't be beat if ya ask me.
If you are dead-set on getting an optical mouse, I've heard really, really good things about the intelliMouse. -Lasereth

Ill never go back to a ball mouse. I cant really recommend any models. I just have a basic Logitech that serves me very well.

Get the Microsoft InteliiMouse Optical.
It's got 5 buttons, a scroll wheel (a must) and it just fits any size hand (left or right) like a glove. Plus you can usually get them pretty cheap. The best feature (IMO) is the back and forward buttons, perfect for web browsers. |

I've used other optical mice that weren't accurate at all, but when you pay for the best you get the best. Don't even bother with an $8 optical. Get the MX700. Last edited by sixate; 04-01-2004 at 09:48 AM.. |

Definatley the MX 700. Im getting one after using my friends for 5 minutes. Made my mouse seem clunky and crappy....
As for Ball Mice being more accurate.... Unless you're using a BoomSlang mouse Lasereth, You've got to be crazy, but to each their own.

I used a wireless optical Intellimouse for about 1 year. It started getting old in FPS (namely BF: Desert Combat and the such) and so I went and bought a 10-buck wired ball mouse. I won 7 matches in a row in Desert Combat that night. It was like I was on a handicap or something. Sorta like Goku training in 10X gravity (for all you DBZ fans). I'm never going back to wireless optical.

I agree with Lasereth. IMHO digital is evil. I wish they'd stop making so many game controlers digital. The precision is better in analog, and analog sticks don't give you digital jitter like the digital ones do. I'm perfectly happy with my Mouseman Wheel ball mouse. They don't make it any more so I'll be pissed when it dies.

I have to say that I use an optical mouse. I have greater precision with it than I ever did with a ball mouse. Another good thing is that i dont need to have it on a mouse pad just to make it work decent. The best part is i nver have to worry about cleaning the things. and yes I am a major FPS gamer. I would not however go wireless as in some instances it can get interference, lose battery power, or jsut have a small lag time.

not that i totallly recommend it, but i bought a logitech optical trackball with 4 buttons plus a function for clicking both and i thought i'd hate it after the first five minutes, but it's grown on me to the point that i hate using normal mouses, wired, ball, whatever. I just love being able to use one finger for controlling a pointer across two monitors. saves me a lot of wear and tear on the wrist.
I've also gotten accustomed to it in games like quake/quake3 and its' just being second nature to me. wiht that said, the microsoft intellimouse above is very good. I lieke the front/back buttons as well. 4-5 buttons min, though

I also NEVER use mousepads. That might be one of the reasons why I like ballmice better...mousepads ruin games for me. I've also found out that not using a mousepad makes the dust accumulation in ballmice to go down to literally NONE. No dust gets in it at all. I haven't cleaned it in a year! I hate most ballmice, so maybe mine just really kicks ass. -Lasereth

Not that I'll ever go back (Especially after buying an MX700, I intend to use it until it craps out with the money I sunk into it ), but just for sake of curiousity. Also, I found the same thing with Ball mice. Mouse Pads = teh bad. Havent touched one in 4 years.
