Stuck pixels in LCD monitors
I'm starting some research into monitors, and I was curious as to what your collective experience with new LCDs was like. For those of you who have dead/stuck pixels, how much does it affect you? Is it ignorable, or does it ruin the experience?

On a related note, can anyone atest to image quality and ghosting (or lack thereof) in the Viewsonic VP171? I'm oscillating between LCD and CRT... it seems like CRT still has slightly better image quality, and they are a lot cheaper.

None. I am running a Eizo Flexscan L371, a little 15 incher. Not a bad monitor. I wish I could have a bigger one, but nothing else will fit on my desk.

I have a Samsung 172N lcd. That one has 2 pixels that stay blue on every color except for white. I just decided to keep it because it is not a big deal when using the computer. I can't even notice it unless I am staring at it.
On my Dell Inspiron 8500, I have a perfect lcd. Everything is working perfectly. |

I have an LG 1710s. It's great, except for one tiny little sub-pixel that seems to be dead. When the screen is black, it kinda stays blue. But then again, it's such a small blip that you'd be hard pressed to see it at all, even if you searched for it.

The bad pixel is from i think whats called a 'burnout' or something like that. They have recently developed ways to make those pixels seem invisible, so when you go to purchase one see if they have that feature on them.

I got a lcd with no dead pixels on the first try but many people I have spoke to have had bad luck. One friend is on his 5th lcd from circuit city and they all have had 1 dead pixel.
My understanding a dead pixel is due to a bad transistor and nothing can be done but some people claim that sometimes you can massage a dead pixel back to life. I would not count on that method working though. |
