rasing website profile with search engines esp google
Hi all
I have a small website that I want to raise it ranking with search engines ( legally). I have bought key words etc. I am also starting to modify my site at least once a week to encourage spiders. Any other ideas amoungst the ether. Thanks

excuse my ignorance, but you can buy "words"? and what the hell does "encourage spiders" mean?

Hi Sion
As I understand them. You can bid 'words' that relate to your products from search engines ( ie google). if I sold VW beetle parts. I would try to be the highes bidder for those words plus possible 'VW parts' and then when some one put them into a search engine my site would appear near the top of the search. Spiders is a term for the software that the search engines use to check internet site for searches. Spider vistit your site depended on the activity of the site and then 'Cache them', the more activity on your site the more visits.

so, that accounts for the "sponsored" results some engines display at the top, before you get to the real search results? in any case, I detest the whole idea of some web owner being able to influence a search engines results with money.

I am in a marekt which has been dominated by two major player nationwide for about 10 yrs. The internet is the only area where I can hope to level the playing field.

Google spiders will come to your site regardless of how often you change it. They hit mine about once per week.
Older search engines use metakeys for helping with the ranking of a site. Google is mainly based on how many sites link to you site, the more sites that link (they have to have a certain importance to rank higher) the better your listing will become.
