I've been with the same host for years without problem. But in the last couple months, I've exceeded my 10 gig allocation. Indeed, I'm over 22 gigs for this month already.

So I'm in the market for a new host. My current host has all kinds of tiered pricing but is a lot more expensive than what's available elsewhere. The only catch is I need one that's friendly to adult content. Not porn, but lots of bodypainting and miscellaneous nakedness.

I looked at powweb.com but they rejected my content. Any other suggestions would be welcomed.

Oh yeah, I did do a search first but didn't see any recent threads or dealing specifically with adult sites. TIA!

well, not that i know squat about web-hosting, but what kind of a price range are you looking for? if you want free, I'm gonna have to laugh at you, but... things movefrom there, ya know?

a) I'm not looking for free but would like to keep it down to $100 a year or so. I *need* 500 megs of server space but would like more. I guess I need 30 gigs of transfer/month, possibly more as well.

b) I've been getting about 100 unique visitors a day this month and averaging 1 gig of transfer a day. The site is 100% pictures, thousands of them. I've looked at my logs but didn't see anything suspicious (not that I would necessarily know if something was). Any hints about what to look for?

I'm in the process of compressing my full-sized jpegs down to save on disk space. I don't think this will help much on bandwidth since the user has to go past a big thumbnail and then an intermediate size to get to them. The intermediate pictures that would seen most often are about 50k each.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I checked a few of the cheapest sites I know of and there's no way you're getting ~30GB/mo for <$100/yr. Per unit pricing on bandwidth gets cheaper the more you buy, though. But that's just like everything else in life.

I would suggest making your site not have "intermediate" pics, in addition to using some image tools to squeeze your pics down as much as you can. Not only will that make them load faster, they'll use less bandwidth.

I did a lot of shopping around yesterday and see that the prices I've been paying aren't too bad after all. So I wrote my web host (been with them almost 5 years, know them by name by now) and will try to negotiate a bigger package.

Powweb looked good but I made the mistake of submitting my site for consideration before signing up and they rejected it. Oh well, that's better than having it just disappear after moving it all over because I violated their TOS.

If you look anymore you might check www.surpasshosting.com . They have a plan with 2Gb space and 30Gb transfer for $110 a year. I have been using them for a few monthes with no problems so far - but of course I get nowhere close to actually testing their limits.

If you are willing to try a foreign hoster, I can suggest cyon.ch (A Swiss company)
They offer

400 MB and unlimited traffic for ~6 $ per month.

I know, that sounds unbelievable, but they're for real!
A friend of mine hosts his site with that company, and he's pretty happy.

They offer support in English, and according to a recent newsletter they plan to offer credit card payment as well sometime in the next days.

they are a free adult host that claims to offer unlimited bandwidth and storage w/ no ads. i know, i know, i didn't believe it either but i registered anyway and i've been slowly building on my (porn)site since September. its over 1gb in size now with some pretty decent traffic and i haven't had any problems at all. i keep waiting for it to dissappear but so far so good. if you don't mind an ugly URL you can get free hosting. i've tried many freehosts and they were all crap. this one isn't.

Perhaps http://1and1.com/ ? They've got a free 3 year deal for those who live in the US. Not a user of their service myself, but a friend of mine signed up and I haven't heard anything bad about it...yet. I've heard bad things about their domain registrations, though.

I went with surpasshosting (from link above) last Wed and it's working good so far. Their admin tools are certainly better than my other host. Thanks for all the tips. Actually keep them coming. I can't be the only one who needs plenty of bandwidth and adult-friendly hosts.
