problem with vid playback
just for background i'll mention that i recently installed XPpro on a clean machine, installed service pack 1 and all microsoft updates.
ok here's today's problem: i have a certain vid that is 15 mins, 119mb. i used to watch it often. now when i play it back it plays the first minute then stalls. the scrollbar at the bottom also scrolls all the way over. if i drag the scroll bar back it shows me the appropriate scene in the vid but won't play. i've had the exact same results in the Win media player and in the Divx player. is this a codec problem? i've even tried the back up copy of the vid on disc but it does the same thing. |

it may be a codec problem : try downloading bsplayer and nimo's codec pack (www.google.com). Have you tried to see if its the video that's messed up? if the video plays perfectly on other computers then try installing all the newest codecs (divx, xvid, mpeg4, etc. which by the way is almost all in the nimo codec pack) or just google them. You should be smart enough to install codecs. If the video on another computer doesn't play, then it may be the video that's messed up; but that wouldn't make sense if it worked before.
just to continue with my redundent post, install all new codecs and if you recorded it off a tv input card or windows movie maker make sure you install those programs + right version numbers i hope that helps |

Try lowering the resolution of your monitor.
I have a 850MHz Athlon with XP Home with 512MB RAM but the video was lagging and audio was synching with the video properly. I lowered the resolution to 800x600 and it worked perfectly after that.

Zoom Player is a nice clean alternative to WMP which i find is often the culprit of many video problems, try grabbing it here:
http://www.inmatrix.com/files/zoomplayer_download.shtml as with any player, you'll still need to get codecs if a video won't play, but this may fix your problem |
