just for background i'll mention that i recently installed XPpro on a clean machine, installed service pack 1 and all microsoft updates.

ok here's today's problem:
i have a certain vid that is 15 mins, 119mb. i used to watch it often. now when i play it back it plays the first minute then stalls. the scrollbar at the bottom also scrolls all the way over. if i drag the scroll bar back it shows me the appropriate scene in the vid but won't play. i've had the exact same results in the Win media player and in the Divx player. is this a codec problem? i've even tried the back up copy of the vid on disc but it does the same thing.
