alright. im int he mood for getting myself a good gaming PC. i just have no idea where i can get a good one for a reasonable price. reasonable being (for everything.. monitors, speakers, keybooard mouse all that, a total of about $2000, tho a lil more is alright)
does naybody know a good site or stroe where i can buy one for about that price?? ive been to every site i can think of, im trying to find the best price.

oh.. and if your feeling generous.. what are some good specs for a gaming PC to have?

Build your own. For $2000 you can make a great rig. Fuck Alienware! If I had a billion dollars in the bank I wouldn't buy one of their ugly ass overpriced PC's.

BTW, I just went to Alienware's site and built a custom PC that is about as exact to mine as I could get and it would cost $2,418.00, and who knows what the shipping would be. I guess I should add that I built mine for less than $2,000, and I don't have one of those fucking ugly ass cases looking at me.

You have to build your own to get any sort of good deal. I bought mine piece by piece from newegg.com for waaaaay under $2,000.00.

Couldn't have said it better sixate. And Mr. Deflok is right - you can build a GREAT gaming PC for under 1750 easily - provided you don't mind not having the absolute best sound system in the world

If you insist on not building it (I REALLY recommend you do this, or find someone who can for you) then I honestly don't know where to look. I've never bought a pre-built comp.

He also wants a monitor and a set of speakers. Quality items will add another $500 if you're going with CRT, and as much as $1000 if you're going with good speakers and an LCD.

Sounds like a good time to learn. It's not a very difficult thing to do. And it is a fact that building your own saves mad cash. Hardcore gamers especially should have some sort of know-how of the inner workings of their pc.

i dont know how to build one, since i just got into PC gaming two years ago (right now though, its about all i do.. well, as far as i can with my comp.). id like to learn how to though, is there a site i can go to or a book to buy or something that would show me how to do it without breaking everything and such? thats why i would be worried about building, im a lil clumsy at times, if i didnt know how to do it right something would end up broken.

LOL, fools, I built my own PC and YES I got a Monitor (17" Phillips 107s), YES I got a Keyboard (Chicony Multimedia Keyboard), YES I got a Mouse (Microsoft Optical) and last but not least I got a Sound System too (Jazz 5.1 Surround System with standalone receiver).

However I did pay extra for my second 20GB hard-drive, silver reflective IDE cables, green neon light, second 10/100 NIC, card cooler, network switch, scanner and printer.

You can pick up just about any supermarket magazine such as Smart Computing or PC Magazine that give start to finish, detailed, photo-assisted instructions for those who don't know what they're doing. It's very basic. Just take your time and learn as you go.

Plus, that way you buy only what you NEED, not what you're stuck with.

Ya, but you said that you got the FX 5900 later, thats another $400-500 right there. My computer was about $1000 dollars without my video card, including speakers and monitor and all that.

Amen to building your own. Thats what I've done for my last 2 computers.

If I for some reason didn't build it myself, I'd go with Ibuypower. Cyberpower and Pudget are also decent.

The mainstream computers are not generally a good choice.

Build your own. Go to a computer show and buy all the shit and slap it together. Or, you can get a vendor there to put it together and you'll save $$$.

If you're gonna go pre built, alienware is prolly the best for gaming. But, DO NOT buy a major brand pc. HP, Dell, IBM...all fucking trash!

I don't know what to suggest for you bud, cause I don't know your experience. I've built computers for 8 years, and my computer itself is over $6000. But it started with a foundation of $2000.


building your own would be fun, but my bud decided to do that for the first time and he couldn't get it working. Called me. If you don't have anyone to go too that would suck. Mom and pop computer stores may build you one, but they will try to stick ass stuff in their unless you specify what you want, and their warrenties may be a little iffy.

An aquaintence of mine owns overdrivepc.com here in ga, and they can build you a good machine but I don't know about the price.

All in all, I don't want to give you an answer based on hate and emotion like some post above. Who cares what people think about other companies, the guy has a simple question.

You can build a pc or buynone. It is basically a listing of online stores selling stuff at a pretty good discount. You don't always get the packaging of the storebrand, but I have had little problems with my orders there...

That really all depends on what company you purchase through.... if you pick a shotty store, you get shotty equip....


Anyway....trial by fire is the best approach at learning something new... the way that computers are put together now-a-days...it is very difficult to damage your equipment unless that is what you are trying to do.

Do some research... price individual parts... make the comparison. If you think that the money that you will save, or the added equipment capabilities for the same price are worth it to you, build it... if you get into a hard spot, you will know where to find us....

3 easy steps to building a PC for people who know nothing about computers.
1. find a college
2. Slip the main IT(tech support) man $20 and ask him to pick one out for you. You'll save many hundreds of dollars.
3. see if he'll "help" you put it together for an extra $50. this way by being there and paying attention you make sure he doesnt pocket "spare parts" and you get a little comp education.
most people are trustworthy, untill you take your eyes off of them.
