Gefore crap...errr.....4, please read

Yes...I am back, with the same problem, as some of you may remember.

Here's the story. I finally have all my parts to build my computer! WOOT! I carefully put everything together and double check it. I boot up and install XP. "Wow! This is going really smooth! Maybe it will work on the first time!" Wrong....

Specs:

A7N8X NON-deluxe
2800+ Barton Core
512 ddr400
350 watt power supply - atx
80 GB 7200rpm Western Digital
56x Mad Dog CD-Rom
Sony Floppy
Albatron :? GeForce4 Ti 4200 128mb

So after installing XP I start installing drivers for the modem, audio, video card, etc. When I get to the video card (Albatron GF4 ti4200) I install the drivers from the CD that was in cluded. I think they were the Detonator 40.11 drivers. So, they finish installing the Detonator drivers and it promts me to restart. Ok. Windows loads, and hell decides to move into my computer. SDHBSEIOPRGNLKEDNSG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <==Represents my anger . Quite a few things happen. When ever anything on the screen changes (ei: clicking "start," single clicking an icon, right click on the desktop, etc - simple gui changes) the monitor will seem the turn off, then turn back on, showing the change. Also I get random resolution changes, and pixels do not display correctly.

My conclusion is that I do not have enough power for the video card, but I would like to here your input too. If you have ANY, yes ANY, ideas please post

Thank you,
-john

P.S. I have already RMA'ed this same card twice because of the same problems listed above :?

A couple of suggestions.

Do you have another AGP card that you can test the AGP bus on your motherboard.

In your bois, try changing your AGP speed from 4x to 2x. This isnt a solution, but I believe when you instal nVidia divers it enables 4x, and this may be why your card functioned before the driver instal.

Download the latest drivers from Nvidia.com.

Have you installed the Nforce2 drivers for the motherboard. These include AGP bus drivers.

Would not enough power cause the gf4 to make the monitor flicker off then on whenever ANY gui in windows changes, except the mouse cursor?

I'll try a different power supply, sometime, once i get a chance to buy one.

How would the video memory chips go bad?

If you aren't getting any "block" or strange characters and have tried the latest video drivers I would try adjusting the Monitor refresh rates and see if that does anything for the flicker.

The power shouldn't have anything to do with it. If it was power his comp would be locking up not just resetting the Refresh rate / res of the monitor. Also if it was the memory chips he would be seeing atrifacts on the screen, I believe this is an issue in the drivers or a defective card. First you should install drivers for your monitor, not just the Win XP ones, if there are any for your brand, but find some new ones and install them. Second, lock the Refresh rate of your monitor, this can be found under the Settings - Advanced - GF4 - Direct 3d - Refresh Rates. Win XP uses some 3d with there menus and other things so its worth a shot. I would suggest trying a new card in your comp, and then trying your card in a different comp. If it still happens, RMA the card and get a new one.

Oh and one more thing to try, Set your Graphics Arpiture size to 128, never know it might help.

Don't Geforce 4 cards require an external power connector? example: the kind of power you would use for a hard drive?

If so, DId you connect the power conncector to the GF4 card?

I have similar parts running on a cheap 300W PSU. Maybe your motherboard is the problem... =/

Is there any way to check for damage that my motherboard may have sustained?
