Well I bought it (new computer)
So after much deliberation, and research, I purchased most of the parts for my computer.
I ended up going into the store to see if they had a certain case that was not listed on their website, and to buy my mobo and ram (both on sale). They actually had 1 of the cases in stock and I purchased it. Ended up walking out with everything except the graphics card! The Specs: The case I got was the Antec Twelve Hundred. This case is HUGE! And it has tons of fans. 3 120mm up front for intake, 2 120mm exhaust out back, and a 200mm exhaust up top. I also added a side 120mm fan, and another one up front that is 120mm. Every fan has a speed controller on it. I put the whole thing together myself, minus mounting the processor and giant heat sink onto the mobo. But I did everything else myself. I have yet to purchase the graphics cards though. The new nvidia GTX260 and GTX280 cards come out on either the 17th or 18th this month and I want to see how they perform, and what they do to prices on the older cards. There is no onboard graphics with this mobo so there is no way for me to check it out. My current system runs an AGP radeon x800xt and the mobo does not take AGP (that I know of) so I can't even swap this one out. Which kind of sucks as this is still a pretty good card, even by todays standards it still holds its own (it better, I spent 600 on it about 2 or 3 years ago!) ** After all the sales and rebates I got on it, and with the case and a full 2 year IPR (instant product replacement) plan and GST it came to $1500. I really have no limit on the graphics card, I figure while I can I might as well just go nuts with it. Whoa. I strongly suggest replacing those 120mm fans with Vantec Stealths or something similar, if you haven't yet. Otherwise you're going to need a monster set of speakers to be able to hear it over all the noise. Don't worry about airflow too much -- I have a Pentium D with two Vantec Stealths and a stock heatsink, and my operating temp never gets above 50C. I realize those C2Qs run hotter, but even still with all the airflow you've got going you're going to be fine.
Make sure you mount the fans properly to promote good airflow. The general rule is front to back and bottom to top.

120mm fans aren't really noisy. the smaller the fan, the noisier it gets.
Speaking of vantec, ever heard a vantec tornado? Yeah, that fucker went on ebay before I even got a day out of it. My computer sounded like a possessed vacuum cleaner. |

Anyways, yeah, that's an awesome PC. That case is MASSIVE. The nine hundred was big enough (too big for me in the end). That thing could hide a small army... Trojan PC? Awesome stuff!

And yeah, I know all about Tornados. I used to be hardcore into overclocking, until I realized that I was almost as much money on things like that and Volcano coolers than it would cost me just to buy faster hardware in the first place.

I fired it up and its not that loud when the fans are on low. And it still moves a shit load of air. I suppose I will have to test it out more once I have the graphics card in it.
If its really that noisy I could always remove some fans, its not a problem. I can take the fan off of the side, one out of the inside, take the 3 ram fans off (came with the ram, not even needed though), and take the fan off of the CPU, the heat sinks are more than enough. But for now its all fans to see how it goes. |

From personal experience I can say that the type of 120mm fan can make a big difference in sound level. I have an Antec P180b case (sweet), and replaced the normal Antec fans with Nexus fans. The difference is huge.
As for the cooler: it's bit, it's heavy, it's good. But I would consider some extra support. I have the normal version, and it's already leaning over a bit. And I replaced the normal Intel mounting system with a bolt-through kit with backplate. At the very least, you need to be *very* careful when moving the case around; wouldn't want to have the cooler demolish your computer... |

I have about 150-200 gigs of music. And about 500+ gigs of movies and TV shows. And with all my games on steam installed thats another 30-50 gigs.
$85 for 500 gigs is piddley cash. And my porn... none of your business!! Its actually staying on an external drive so it don't matter. |

A few years back I thought 360 gigs would be more than enough drive space, its not. Better to have to much than not enough.

There we go, I just picked up a eVGA 8800GT for myself this morning for $150. Thats damn cheap for Canada. Only problem is that I am leaving for business for two weeks and wont even be able to hook it up or try out the new computer until I get back.
Our local computer store moved locations this weekend and was having a huge sale and giving away prizes, I actually won one of the best prizes! An Asus GPS system! Its awesome and sells for about $300. I figure $150 is a pretty good price to pay to satisfy myself until the new line of cards comes out sometime in Q3. |
