Removing NT and Installing Windows.

I have a very old laptop (Toshiba Satellite Pentium II) which was given to me by a school that was upgrading it's hardware. It has NT loaded up as its OS, but I cannot login as I don't know the passwords, and anyway, it's not on the school's network anymore.

I have media CD's for Windows 98 with the product Key and all which I would like to replace the NT operating system with.

How do I do this? I basically want to use this laptop for MS Office apps.

thanks in advance!

update,

I tried booting the computer using a Windows boot diskette, but it still went to the NT start up (Login). Are there any hints out there?

Doesn't the Windows 98 CD boot up and offer an install option to overwrite the HD? You might have to change the boot settings on the laptop to boot from the CD-ROM prioritized over the HD to do so.

You'll have to check the BIOS or jump into the boot options (on boot if available) to make sure it will boot from the floppy or CDs prior to the hard drives. If it is skipping either, then the hard drive is set as the primary boot device. (pretty much what baraka guru said)

This is probably going to be where you are slapping one of the function keys at boot (usually f2, f8, f9, f10, or f12)

The problem is, the laptop is NT, and I believe that the file stucture is different, so I need to do something prior to enable the FAT 32 files to be read....

Still no luck trying these suggestions tho

Can you get into BIOS? (If the function keys did not work, try the Delete key).

NT uses NTFS ... Windows 98 used FAT32 ... but that doesn't have anything to do with boot priority. The laptop itself could care less what kind of file system you are using.
