My laptop doesn't want to play sound for music/most games...help!
So I'm listening to some music and the download box for Steam pops up saying I finished downloading their new game: Portal. I barely had enough space to install it (less than a megabyte left after installation). I proceeded to begin installation and I then attempted to run it. The game showed me the opening screens (well, only just the Valve one) and then my screen goes blank...to a fade of different colors of green (similar to

http://dr-photoshop.com/zfile/tutorials/vectorgrunge/Picture-4.jpg Then the screen goes blue and a ton of text comes up in a very short amount of time and all I really see is that it has to restart because of some sort of malfunction. So it restarts and then the sound goes out. But the speakers on my laptop still work...when I unplug the power cable it makes the same annoying beep...and the sound still works for Myst...but not for Warcraft3. And Portal doesn't work at all. I've attempted a system restore but that did nothing. I uninstalled Portal, but that hasn't done anything either. Any suggestions on what might have gone wrong?
