What movie conversion software?
Hey guys,
I've been downloading movies and stuff and the torrent guys are really prudent with giving you what you want, I'm impressed at how in such a short time they get you clear copies of the latest movies in HD format and in only 700MB!! You cant beat that, now if only they could make it fit into one CD that would be cool, anyway, what I'm wondering is what software do they use to convert the movies into the .avi format with?? Can someone please let me know? |

a) 700MB will fit on a single CD
b) it's not TRULY HD if it's 700MB unless it's a 30 minute show. c) Google it... there are litereally dozens if not hundreds of options. d) If by latest movies you mean in theatres, it's also not HD. Best possible option here is a Screener DVD rip, which will be 480p. No studios do HD-format screeners currently.

OK, heres the deal, I have 300 eh, the original DVD release, some neighbor of ours was actually a fanatic enough to buy it. I want to, say, convert the whole movie, just from the beginning to the credits, non of the how its made nonsense, into the 700 MB .avi format, do I use Screener DVD?
What if I want to convert it back to .VOB so I can burn it to DVD because my moron step dad's DVD player is a million years old, not the new ones that support DivX, what software do the bastards use? You know, the gods like aXXo and the rest, how do they do it? Oh, about HD, I didn't mean exactly HD, I meant the film is suitable for our widescreen TV of which I dislike so much, I prefer the letter-box version, which brings me to another thing, how many of you guys prefer widescreen to letter box? I know widescreen has gained popularity because of it's capability of expanding it in size as big as you want it but the stretch of the picture just doesn't appeal to me. Quote:

I'll try to tackle all of these points.
First, a Screener DVD isn't an app, it's just a DVD that the studios send out to reviewers before a movie is released to theatres. It was just a point regarding HD. Next, I love widescreen. Most movies are recorded in 16:9 ratio, many new ones are 2.2:1 or whatever the new "ultra" widescreen is. I prefer widescreen becuase to go to normal 4:3 aspect ratio, they have to cut off the sides of the movie, which means you are not seeing ALL of the movie. That's what the "this video has been edited to fit your television" message at the beginning of most videos is all about. 16:9/Widescreen is the way to go! Next, why would you want to compress a DVD into an .avi and the convert it back to VOB? That will only serve to give you a very poor quality movie. If you want to duplicate a DVD (backup) you can use DVD Shrink (Google search) and it will take double-layer DVD movies and fit them on a single layer DVD-R. You can also choose to keep or ditch extra features and menus. You may also need DVD Decrypter for some discs with heavier or newer DRM. I've never had that problem with Nero or any other recording software. Usually you can fit almost exactly 700MB onto the disc. Some room is taken as overhead for the filesystem. *shrug* Perhaps that's what you were seeing. Nero Recode will convert DVDs into PC-based file formats. Again, the best bet is to search for something that suits your needs. There are a LOT of different utilities out there that give you a lot of varying options. Honestly, I just use DVD Shrink, use Nero to turn it into an .iso file and view the movies using Daemon Tools whenever I want to watch them.
