copy/paste not functioning.
this is getting really annoying... my copy and paste thing isn't working right, I've been virus free since i last installed windows, I've scanned my computer with a virus scanner and with ad-aware....
my productivity level has hit rock bottom... i never realized how much i took copy/paste for granted... !!!! it occasionally works, it occasionally works, in occasions like in this forum?? i can copy and paste in this thread type box... i can copy and paste the url into this window but i can't copy and paste it into another window..... i can't share links with people or anything!! has this happened to anyone... any advice or direction in where i should go to figure this out would be much appreciated.

On pc's at work that have Nero, it's impossible to copy and paste or drag anything around. I refuse to load it.
So, the question would be, when did this start? Did you load any software beforehand, specifically any viewing/editing software? Is it only in your browser that you can't c&p or is it random throughout?

On the software install idea: any macro software, or anything that would affect keystrokes on a global/local level?

i installed unreal tournament 2004 recently... afew weeks ago i did carmageddon II and the current version of Pidgin, (formerly known as gaim)
sometimes things work randomly when staying in the same box, but other than that, nothing really works. i never once had any macro software to my knowledge. and not to go off topic.. but i havn't had any computer issues in a long time and am not as familiar with all of the scanning stuff anymore... i still use ad-aware and my virus scanner... but is something like this the processlibrary.com s registry scanner safe to use?? i would copy and paste a link.. but i can't

I don't know anything about processlibrary, so no comment there.
Have you also tried a different keyboard? You know those things can get pretty wonky sometimes!

aqua, i found this registry tool from another tfp thread recently http://www.ccleaner.com/
worked like a charm. i would also think about checking to see if you haven't accidentally turned on something like 'sticky keys' or the equivalent...sometimes your keyboard options can fuck up simple things like this. is this only when you do it with the keyboard, or with the mouse too? i would also check any options in your clipboard and make sure it's not been changed somehow.

i tried using mouse keys and the menus and whatnot to copy and paste... doesn't work either.
i just tried a system restore, it got a disc space error... i had afew gigs free when i did it... now my bookmarks in firefox are gone, the bottom gray bar of firefox is two inchs tall?? half my programs are odd now.... all of my system restore points are gone.... i think i might have to reinstall windows.... which means a year of reinstalling programs and updating windows, my discs are from before windows SP1 restarting twice fixed firefox.. reinstalled one of the other programs that went bad.... i still have no copy paste, endless crap to backup pig, you mentioned clipboard settings??? does windows have clipboard settings? i havn't noticed any. as i was launching the program to reformat my CD's, i remembered i forgot to backup my email!!! i quit that and opened up windows to do so... i tinkered around more, ran that ccleaner that was mentioned aboved.... then i realized what was going on, my clipboard is being hoggged up cause my computer keeps taking print screens nonstop!! i'm not sure if it is from the keyboard or something else... i already tried opening windows as a different user with the same results... i think it may be my laptop's keyboard??? anyone have advice on what to do from here? thanks in advance!

Before reinstalling Windows, blow out your Firefox settings by creating a new profile. If you can find your bookmarks, you can move them back over.

bookmarks are now backed up
i noticed that when i hold the pause/break button, if i keep it down, it stops taking screenshots to allow for copying and pasting at the moment.... everything seems fine software wise now ... not sure if this is a software or hardware issue... the computer still works except for the copy paste thing
