DSL going out after logged into the computer for a few hours.
Hopefully someone can help me out here. I have business DSL at work with a non-static IP. I have two computers hooked up to it and they are both basically the same setup. The problem is after a few hours it cant make any new connections. Old connections like World of warcraft and Ventrillo work fine as long as don't log off. The only way I've found to fix it so far is to reboot which is a pain in the arse! I'm thinkin it's got something to do with renewing the IP but I can't be sure... oh.. I'm running XP SP2 and it's a netopia modem going through a neargear switch.

It really shouldn't have to "renew" the IP unless for whatever reason DHCP is completely hosed in your configuration somewhere. I know that my ISP gives me DHCP leases of 24 hours at a time, but since i never turn off my gateway computer, it keeps renewing them. If you type ipconfig /all does it give you any relevant information?
If you can, maybe one output of ipconfig /all working normally, then one when it's broken for comparison's sake?

It's probably a stack running out of memory, either in the computer, or more likely, in the router or DSL modem.
Cybermike, when you reboot are you also rebooting the network equipment? Are you running torrents or other P2P software? They can quickly exhaust the memory in consumer devices unless you tune the number of connections.

I just reboot my computer, not the modem. The second computer doesnt have the problem nearly as much but it has done it once or twice in the last few months. Also a relog does NOT fix it. I did a ipconfig /all while it's working and took note of all the settings. I'll look again if/when it quits working tonight.
ok it just went out and I did ipconfig /all and nothing was different. I did a /renew and it didn't work. I'm stumped...
