firefox issues

firefox used to run great on my system, until today. Earlier today I plugged my cell phone into my computer, it installed as a modem, and there after firefox can't get to any web page, only displaying 'Server not found.' IE works fine, opera works fine, even mozilla, just not firefox. I’ve uninstalled the cell phone, I’ve uninstalled firefox, removed every thing related to firefox from the registry and tried to reinstall it, after reinstalling it, it still will not work, I am out of ideas. Please help.

XP SP2
Firefox 1.5.0.4
Windows firewall
AVG antivirus

Is the system proxy setting (not used by FF) allowing everything else to work?

Are you sure the about:config list is reset? At least the network set?

Otherwise perhaps some remnant wasn't uninstalled? Any extensions still there that you'd expect not to be? Extensions-from-hell can lead to doozy "it won't work" headaches.

Oh, did it work with phone-as-modem? I couldn't be certain.

any suggestions on removing the extensions? at this point i'm left with reimaging the system. i've tried everythign to remove every part of firefox, but some part is left.

oh and i never tried to use the cellphone as a modem with firefox, i was trying to dial though, to use it as a phone with my computer.

I think they can only be in:

Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\extensions
docs and settings\AppData\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\blah.default\extensions

Argh. That'd be evil.

I'd be looking for any remnants of that software. I can't tell if it's a PAM setup or some kind of VOIP thing, but I have found quite a few "special" drivers that weren't so special. If it was trying to be a modem for Firefox it seems like the common ill. Reinstall it and find where it lives?
