Two minor problems...
1. In the edit options menu, there is no "no" option to disable receiving a pop-up notification for a pm? Can this be fixed?
2. Again, in the edit options menu, I tried changing the preference of receivng an email to threads I have subscribed to, to no and didn't see a change. I thought it affected prior subscriptions only and not new ones I would make. Tested it out and still got emails. Am I doing something wrong? And, yes, I also looked under my message box to confirm it is not checked. As I am doing now, but I'm sure I'll be getting an email for this thread anyway.

Well, the no for the first question threw me. How sure are you that a "No" option couldn't be added to the pop-up notification feature?
And, for the unsubcribe link, you make perfect sense. I was thinking along the lines of that as well. But didn't want to click the link in the emails for fear they would come off my list in the cp. And, I thought the same thing about the future threads but I still get emails. *shrug*

hm. it's not a matter of "can we" it's a matter of "will we". mods need a guaranteed way to get ahold of members. that's PM's. so, no, you can't disable them.
as for e-mails... wha??? now, I'm confused. you want to be subscribed to threads, but not get e-mails? that's what subscribing to a thread IS. it's getting e-mails every time someone replies. big PITA as far as I'm concerned, but meh. as an alternative, if you just want a list of stuff you're keepin' track of, theads are bookmarkable. |

Cheerios, I'm sorry if I misled you in some way. But never did I suggest that private messages become disabled but instead the little every so often box that pops up and says "You have received a new private message? Would you like to read it?" That is what is meant by pop-up notification. Check it out, it's listed in the edit options section of the cp so you can get a better understanding of what I mean.
As far as the subscribe to thread issue goes, I only wanted them to appear in the section of my cp so I would know when someone replies without having the hassle of running back and forth to my email to delete those "notification" emails. I thought this was possible. Maybe I dreamed it? I agree a very big PITA indeed.

Without the little popup box, most people just would not read any of the PM's that arrive in their PM box. I should know. When I recieved one, and I didn't have notifications at the time, it sat there for 2 months before I realized that it was there.

Do you really get that many PMs?? As for the subscriptions, I don't think there's a way to subscribe and not receive e-mails.

While I understand <b>both</b> your positions on this issue. You seem to miss the point of what I was asking. Just slow down, and you'll see. If you added a "no" option to the <u>pop-up notification</u> for pm's (I've done near run this phrase into the ground), right? Then how would that affect <b>your</b> current settings now?? I'll go further. If your cp is set to <b>"yes"</b> for that specific option, then you will continue to be notified will a pop-up box. Did I break that down well enough? I, on the other hand, just don't like getting prompted like that. I check my cp everyday, <b>everyday</b>. So I would be the first to know of any pm. If it's too hard or out of your hands, please, simply say, "We wouldn't know how to implent this if we tried." or something close. Thanks Cheerios, you had the right answer but I wasn't sure you understood my concept on the pop-up thing. As well as meanspleen's and secretmethod's comments, always a pleasure to hear from you. I'm just waifing through air. I wanted to see a small change...
Yeah, secretmethod I don't really get pm'ed that often. Although it would be <b>nice</b>. Side note: Why is there a 70 on the end of your username? I think Secretmethod alone is a pretty hip name, unless you added that to define yourself in some way.

People have a tendancy to turn off Notifications (back when there was still an option for it)
Then, they ignore the PM box. If we force them to see alerts, then we are almost guaranteed of them seeing what is in the PM box. REASON: Back in the day, as I said, there was the option to get alerts or not. Back in the day, almost everyone would turn it to "off" for some reason. Then, when a mod or someone had to get their attention, it went un-noticed. Thats why the alert is mandatory for all accounts.

I see... but hasn't the TFP evolved since then? Cause I'm thinkin' waaaaaay back in the day.
If it would be put under consideration; I'd leave it at that.

TFP has evolved, yes. Have people in general evolved though? No. There are still just as many jerks, spammers, harassers, etc that we need to PM with warnings every day, and with the option to turn off the pop-up noptification most would never know they had a PM waiting for them.
Many people are not the same kind of upstanding forum citizen you are oldtimer as for the 70, it's a multiplication of 2 of my favorite numbers, 7 and 10, and it started long ago with another name when it was already taken and I had to add a number. It just stuck, because what are the chances someone would have a 70 after their name?

Another long shot here again, but we couldn't work out some option here for not receiving email about subscribed threads but still be allowed to keep them on the cp?
Thanks secretmethod for answering my questions.
