Editing What Forums Are Shown - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

I've been round & round my CP but still cant find an option to edit what forums are shown. As an example I would like to remove a forum so it doesnt show up under new posts.

Not a possibility. What forums are visible is edited by the administrators, and is determined by usergroup I believe. Thus some forums can be dropped for some users (specifically exhibition), but a customized view isn't possible. Furthermore, as far as I know it is impossible to set what forums show up in New Posts only on a per-user basis -- if you have access to it, you'll see it there. Thus, for example, it's not possible for a dude to be able to view Ladies Lounge by clicking on it, but not have the threads show up in New Posts.

On that note, I could see the merit in having a usergroup for guys who might want to voluntarily remove their access to that forum. Admins? Has such a thing ever been considered?

I think there was some discussion before about the exhibition forum but I cant find that thread and dont know if it still applies anyway.

I dont mind seeing the ladies lounge, not a prob for me although sometimes a male may accidentally post there.

If you want your exhibition access removed voluntarily, that can be accommodated easily enough; you wouldn't even be the first to do it. However, note that this means all access. You won't be able to see it even if you want to. If you're fine with that, just PM someone in charge, and it can be done.

The fact that males accidentally post in the ladies lounge is what prompted my above train of thought. It occurred to me that there may be guys out there who see no merit in having access to the forum, and might want access removed to prevent slip-ups. I don't know if such a thing would be popular or useful, but it seems like it'd be worth investigating.

We don't have a way to do that at the moment.

I've been tinkering with a change in the future for some other forums, but we're not able to filter the new posts at all. We did have a mod that did it, but it proved to be too server intensive so we stopped using it.

and yes we do have a way of getting rid of some of the forums but it's an all or nothing thing.

No, thats not the prob, although I rarely check out that forum I would still like access. I would however like to be able to remove that forum from the new posts board. Some of the titles are NSFW, as I said I think this was discussed before.

There IS a version of vBulletin that allows you to customize your searches to omit forums you don't want to search; I don't know what that version is.

And yeah, I'd be less likely to respond to a thread in the Ladies Lounge if it didn't show up in the "new post" search. I haven't done it yet, but I've been close.

At one point I was going to make a group for people that request it to not be able to post in the ladies forum but be able to read. Maybe when I convert to 4.0 later this year I'll consider making that option...

I've been PM'd and had mods delete some of my posts from the Ladies Lounge. I post there quite frequently because I never pay attention to what forum what thread is in. Nowadays I am more careful, but meh ...

We don't even have a punishment for men posting in the Ladies Lounge (unless they're guilty of something else). We don't think it's that big a deal since we understand how easy it is to make the mistake. Besides 99% of the time, the guy doing it is trying to be legitimately helpful, and that's the last thing that we want to stop.

I can't think of many guys that HAVEN'T done it, so count yourself in rare company if you're the exception. And if you're not, don't feel too bad.

I would love the ability to choose which forums I saw when I hit the new post button. This has been one of my few gripes about this site in all the years I've been here. It would allow me a lot more time to do things other than sorting through the topics... like posting more of my own and responding.
