Block Certain Members from Journal
I would like a feature that blocks members from reading some of my private entries. The reason behind this is that I do not want the people that I live by to learn of events that do not concern them. My logic is that a person who has nothing to do with the situation will be less influenced and give better advice than one who does live by me, and is directly affected by it. These things may be public knowledge but in due time I will tell them.
As of now I only see a means of allowing certain journal buddies to see my journal, however, I want this open to anyone who would like to suggest--except to those that I live near.

you can block members from reading your entries.
one just has to put in the names of those they want to have access, so it's BLOCK ALL, or BLOCK ALL BUT THESE PEOPLE. how would you know it's people who live near you to block? we don't have people who put in a particular zip code on login, and how about those that live in other countries?

if you don't want it known..don't post it. That's the easiest way to deal with it. Or just make it a private entry as cyn said. The feature that you need to use is the journal buddy feature. There's no realistic or feasable way to implement that kind of code.

It is private already and the people that usually visit my journal are added as buddies. How hard would it be to implement a code like that? We already have ignore member lists? What is different?
And as to how I know which members to block: I live near them. I am the one that reffered them here.

Speaking not from the practical standpoint, but from the philosophical:
What you are asking for is rather anti-community, and thus not in keeping with the spirit of TFP, in my opinion. Blocking certain members is not comparable to having an ignore list, which would prevent you from seeing my posts - it would be comparable to having a button that prevented ME from seeing YOUR posts, which effectively cuts me out of a discussion that the larger group could be having. This is even worse since in this case that discussion could easily be about me! Every time AI saw that entry that I wasn't allowed to view I would wonder if it was me that was being discussed - and that would definitely make me feel less at home here. On the other hand, allowing certain people to see your private thoughts has more to do with inclusion than disclusion. I certainly don't mean this as a condemnation of you Augi, but I think preserving the character of TFP is important.
