TFP 2005 Fantasy Baseball preperation thread
Hey all.
Each year we wind up having a fun time doing The TFP Fantasy baseball league. I was thinking that this year instead of someone just setting up a league and inviting people that we all discuss how we want the league set up this year. Ill start off by posting categories with choices for each. each person in there reply posts the category number and the answer number for each and then their comments suggestions questions etc. 1) Type of League a) Roto b) head 2 head 2) Auction? a) Auction draft b) reguler draft c) No Auction 2b) (Only if we choose auction) Salary Cap A) 20 Mil B) 30 Mil c) 50 MIL d) 60 MIl e) 75 Mil 3) Keeper? a) No Keepers b) Bulk team keeper ( 9 or more keepers per team) c) 1 keeper per team d )2 keeper per team 4) League Platform a) Yahoo (like always) b) Yahoo Plus c) other pay league such as MLB, espn etc.. (some have prizes) d) other free league like Yahoo. e) our own platform where we have to write everything down and keep track on our own 5) Do we want our own entry fee that goes towards prizes? a) Yes b) No c) maybe I need to think about it. 5a) (only if we choose prizes) do we want to pay for add drops? a) Yes b) No 6) Amount of teams a) 12 b) 14 c) 16 d) 20 e) 26 f) 30 g) 8 8) stats a) only positive stats such as steals hr etc. b) positive and negative would include stuff like walks allowed Strike outs ( batters) etc. 9) Amount of stats ( X hitting stats by X Pitching stats) a) 5 x 5 b) 6 x 6 c) 8 x 8 d) other 10) Amount of players This includes all roster, bench, dh and utility position a) 18 b) 20 c) 21 d) 22 e) 24 f) 25 g) 26 H) other 11) Injured list a) none b) one c) two d) three f) four 12) Waiver Time a) none b) 1 day c) 2 day d) 3 day 13) Vetoes a) No veto (not a good Idea) b) Commish does votoes c) League votes veto Anyhow these are just a few things to think about. You can vote on none all or some of the questions. It is up to you. at least now we all can really craft this into a fun league.

1. Roto is fine
2. Regular serpentine draft 3. No keepers, maybe in the middle of this season work something out then we can do keepers for the '06 season 4. Yahoo is fine, Plus is an option but I do not know what it would cost, again something to look into 5.Don't know about seperate fees, especially if we do a pay Yahoo league or something else involving costs to cover the league in general I will cover everyting else in one point here since I am too lazy to keep checking numbers and questions. Last year's league ran by Donuts/Dylan? was a good time for all, I think we had 12-14 teams but I think we went waaaay over the top for teams and stats. 20something scoring categories was a lot imho and have never done a league with soo many stats involved. Again I say I had a blast and willing to do it all over again, but was a bit much at times I think.

That is what I use in my league I run for friends. I've been running fantasy leagues for a few years and have settled on these settings, and use them from year to year. They work well for my leagues and may give you and others an idea and something to work with, or start from.. I'd definitely be interested in this league if there are still openings. Take care.

Type of League
a) Roto b) head 2 head Both have + and -, I prefer Roto because it is solely stat based and shows who builds a stronger team. H2H is cool tho because you have to stay truly up to date. 2) Auction? a) Auction draft= this keeps things pretty fair 2b) (Only if we choose auction) Salary Cap c) 50 MIL= a nice sum and I truly like the idea of a cap 3) Keeper? b) Bulk team keeper ( 9 or more keepers per team)= Keepers keep people truly into it. Also, I think we should after 9th round of draft just choose a MLB team and we get that team's players to fill out the roster. Platform? a) Yahoo (like always) yahoo is by far the best, noone can touch them e) our own platform where we have to write everything down and keep track on our own If we go keeper, I think we should have a webpage (Geocities) that we can truly keep track of F/A, who has what money left, etc. 5) Do we want our own entry fee that goes towards prizes? c) maybe I need to think about it. Depends on keeper situation and how things go. We could end up with a group losing and they decide to trade with #2 or #3 to prevent #1 from winning..... in that case it would be a ripoff 5a) (only if we choose prizes) do we want to pay for add drops? b) No We want to be able to keep this affordable. Someone could get hit hard with a DL problem for 2 weeks and have to pay out the ass just to field a decent team, then pay again to drop the guys. However, if we draft teams and are in a keeper league we automatically would have backups so then the add/drop would only be for true F/A and I could see a charge for that then. 6) Amount of teams a) 12-14 Is the ideal #, spreads talent equally. 8) stats a) only positive stats such as steals hr etc. 9) Amount of stats ( X hitting stats by X Pitching stats) a) 5 x 5 or 6 x 6 I'm old fashioned keep the stats simple 10) Amount of players This includes all roster, bench, dh and utility position f) 25 11) Injured list d) three 12) Waiver Time b) 2 days 13) Vetoes c) League votes veto but Commish can have final say If people drop and people go on vacation you could see trades slide thru easily.... or the league vetoing a trade simply because 3 people don't like one of the guys trading.

head 2 head
regular draft No Keepers Yahoo (like always) or Yahoo Plus; I'm cool with either No on the entry fee/prize Amount of teams: 12 positive and negative stats for sure 6 x 6 18 - 21 players per team two injured player slots per team 2 day waiver period League votes veto On a side note, I didn't organize the Baseball League last year; I did the football league. I've always found that a smaller league coupled with a nice mixture of stats always works better. Yahoo! is the best and easiest medium to set the league up. |

An out is an out. I'd rather see GIDP since it is much more detrimental to a ralley and adds a level of unpredictability. I really like using SLG instead of HR because it greatly increases the value of all non-HR guys. I think it's a much better indicator of offensive production. (SB-CS) is also great because it penalizes a player like Juan Pierre who, even though be piles up a lot of SB, he gets CS so much that it is almost detrimental to the team. On the other hand, Dave Roberts and Podsednik were almost perfect last season. If the league is large ~20 or more teams, the closers will be gone fast. People will have to stock up on MR guys who have zero value other than K's, ERA, and WHIP. Adding H gives the players value and discourages the stockpiling of closers since you need H and SV. 10) Amount of players This includes all roster, bench, dh and utility position f) 25 25 is an upper limit, we really could go down to 20. We should not exceed 25 since ML rosters can exceed 25. 11) Injured list b) one c) two I think we should add in a provision that players cannot be kept on the DL for more than a couple days after they lose DL status. That way the players cannot be hidden. 12) Waiver Time c) 2 day 13) Vetoes c) League votes veto |

1) Type of League
b) head 2 head 2) Auction? b) reguler draft 3) Keeper? I think keepers would be fun especially with all the steroid controversy going down. You never know who's going to be playing or not. Lot's of trading gauranteed!! b) Bulk team keeper ( 9 or more keepers per team) 4) League Platform a) Yahoo (like always) 5) Do we want our own entry fee that goes towards prizes? b) No c) maybe I need to think about it. ahhh I thought about it...whatever you decide is fine with me. 6) Amount of teams d) 20 e) 26 8) stats b) positive and negative would include stuff like walks allowed Strike outs ( batters) etc. 9) Amount of stats ( X hitting stats by X Pitching stats) c) 8 x 8 10) Amount of players This includes all roster, bench, dh and utility position e) 24 11) Injured list c) two 12) Waiver Time a) none 13) Vetoes a) No veto (not a good Idea) That's my two cents.......I've played in this league the last two years and I participate to the end. Was quite successful last year...... Last edited by vitamint; 02-16-2005 at 11:59 AM.. |

1) Type of League:
H2H -- it's more fun to have an actual opponent each week. 2) Auction? No -- it should be a regular "live" draft... sometime in mid-late March. 3) Keeper? No -- too much turnover (of TFP teams) from one season to the next. 4) League Platform: Yahoo (1st choice)... but, another free league like Yahoo would also be fine. 5) Do we want our own entry fee that goes towards prizes? Yes, but it's not a big deal. 5a) (only if we choose prizes) do we want to pay for add drops? No... absolutely not! 6) Amount of teams: 12 -- but, anywhere from 8-16 is ok with me. 7) ??? 8) stats: positive and negative -- it's good to have a balance of quality vs. quantity. 9) Amount of stats ( X hitting stats by X Pitching stats): other (it should be more), but at least 8 x 8 would be ok. 10) Amount of players This includes all roster, bench, dh and utility position: 22. 11) Injured list: two. 12) Waiver Time: 2 day 13) Vetoes: League votes veto -- hopefully, it won't happen... but it would deter collusion. Well we already have a few replys and a league probably won't have more than 12-14 teams on it. It's likely that there are many more people who would join in.
There seems to be a pretty equal split between those who want H2H and those who want Roto. Why don't we set up one of each? If there are extra teams available, I'm sure there are people here who would happily take a team in each league. Why don't we split this into two threads, one for roto and one for h2h and ask the questions again? |

I like H2H w/ Live draft and Yahoo's always been my league of choice..
but I'd have no problems with other free leagues.. I've never tried an auction draft.. sounds intriguing.. more than 12 teams seems a little too much 3 injured.. commish rejects and i've played w/ up to 10x10 stats so.. 8x8 seems arite.. w0rd
