BCS
3 little letters that put a smile on my face. I love BCS time and the way this season is shaping out its going to be interesting to say the least. I have a couple hopes and predictions for this years games. We'll see how they pan out.
Usc probably wins out and plays an undefeated Auburn in the Orange Bowl. Florida State plays Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. If not, then Auburn plays Florida State in a great Sugar Bowl. Either way I see it, I'm going to party on bourbon st this new years and watch FSU kick some ass. |

I'm one of those that subtracts the "C" to give my opinion on the BCS.
It's all about the playoffs, in my opinion.

I can't figure out why the top conferences haven't gone to a play-off system, using the bowls as the preliminary rounds. For instance, (and I am just making up particapting bowl names, don't waste time telling me a particular bowl isn't a part of it)have the Rose, Fiesta, Orange and Sugar host the top 8 teams. All four games actually mean something instead of just the one hosting the top two. Then the next week, the Cotton and Gator host the winners, with the Holiday getting the two winners. Seven bowls get into the picture, every game is meaningful, only four teams play an extra game (and two play two more), and we have a national champion.
Nah, it's all too easy. |

Its amazing that EVERY OTHER SPORT in the NCAA has playoffs, even Div. 1-AA and below have playoffs, but Division 1-A can't do it. Its all about the money to the NCAA. ONe would of thought that what happened last year with co-national champions would of fixed the problem. But as long as schools are making millions playing .500 ball and going to a bowl, things will never change.

There are at least 15 bowls, so there would be an easy solution. Put the top 16 teams in 8 of the bowls. The winners move on to 4 of the 7 remaining, then 2 of the 3 and the final is the championship. The argument against is that fans can't travel to that many games, but the whole thing is made for TV anyway. |

I agree, BCS isn't the best system. I talk with my buddies about playoff scenerios and the like, but its never going to happen. I just thank my luckey stars the the BCS seems to like FSU. Personally I'd like to see Miami play OU and USC to play FSU, but thats so unlikely its hardly worth mentioning. If those matchups were to take place the whole country would have to admit that the State of Florida does contain the two best football teams in the nation.

Is this a thread about observations of the current BCS rankings, or gripes about the whole system in general?
If it's the former, then what about Miami at #2? If they're really that good, they'll hold onto the spot. There could be a lot of undefeated teams at the end of the year.

I love and hate the BSC. I love the bowl games and how there are so many at one time. I almost look forward to watching late december early january football more than the holidays.
But.......... Sooner or later, there are going to be three undedeated teams at the top of each poll, and one is going to be left out. This may be the year that it happens. I'm a big Miami fan, but I think it's rather arbitrary to put them ahead of Oklahoma. Miami, USC, Oklahoma, and Auburn all have legitimate chances of remaining undefeated. I think the only way to determine the true national champion is to let them play each other. As much as I'd love to see a playoff system, I just don't see it happening for a while By the way Stevo22, I go to a lot of the FSU games, my friend's brother is the starting center (D. Castillo) for FSU so he gets us tickets. It's a much nicer stadium than the Orange Bowl. Lpj8 |

I've got a feeling that the national polls will change now that the BCS has come out. For instance, I think Tennessee will move way up (where they deserve to be) because they're in the top 10 in the BCS. At the top, though, I don't see too much changing if nobody loses, which would be sad for this Auburn fan. But if we win out and beat 4 top 10 teams in a year (and 1 twice), then maybe Auburn can get to #2.

The new improved BCS system is no better and still as confusing in the results as the old BCS. Yes its the BCS minus the "C" they need a playoff system. That's all there is to it. Its like scoring in gymanstics or diving, the scoring is way too subjective. Let the teams play each other for goodness sake.

After thinking about it, I don't know if Auburn is going to go undefeated. They still have to play UGA, Alabama, and then a championship game. If they go undefeated then they sure deserve a shot at the national championship, but I wouldn't count on it. What I don't understand is how USC and Oklahoma keep getting ranked up top. I mean they don't play anybody! The only team USC plays this year is Cal. Oklahoma plays TX, A&M, and Oklahoma State. I'm sure we'll see OU loose to one of the latter two. I know you people out west think that your football is the best in the country and you probably think that football in the southeast is alright, but you have no idea. I would love to see either OU or USC play a top SEC or ACC schedule. If they did they surely wouldn't be ranked #1. |
