Yanks/Sox in ALCS again

Here we go... BAMBINO TIME!

runtuff 10-09-2004 05:15 PM

This is going to be a great series for the Red Sox against the Yankees. The Red Sox have a championship team.

canuckguy 10-09-2004 05:16 PM

lets hope this one is different this time. i think boston has the pitching this time around.

radioguy 10-09-2004 09:35 PM

i'm glad the yankees beat the twins. it just wouldn't be right if the red sox made it to the world series without beating the yankees. red sox to the series!!!!!

tronims 10-09-2004 10:12 PM

As much as I liked to see the yankees lose, I was rooting for them to move on to the ALCS just so that we could finally take them out ourselves. I see no way the Sox are going to lose.

REVERSE THE CURSE

MacGuyver 10-10-2004 01:19 AM

Its going to be close... Damon is going to be the consistant playmaker of the series. Schilling is the man. The only thing making me nervous about this series is Pedro...

joeyaz 10-10-2004 12:22 PM

I was also rooting for NY to beat the twins just so the sox can take them out this year.

wrongfullyaccuzd 10-10-2004 05:12 PM

We should start a poll, who's going to be the Yankees' hero this year in crushing Boston's dreams at the last second? Someone obvious like Jeter? Someone ironic like A-Rod? Or someone out of nowhere like Miguel Cairo?

Will be fun to watch.

Esen 10-12-2004 05:27 PM

ah hah hah
Schilling just got spanked.
Or should I say by 9 players and 55000 fans just made him SHUT UP :)

I love how his words came back at him.
The games not over , and I wouldn t count the red sox out of the game yet, but Schilling is toast.

And Mussina Is the daddy tonight.

ledhead 10-12-2004 05:39 PM

i say good riddance to both of them. last year since the angels did not make it, i kind of rooted for the sox. well, after i have seen sox fans are just as bad as yanks fans. i say screw them both.

Esen 10-12-2004 07:42 PM

Just when you thought it couldn t get any better,
The Yankees let the RedSox build their hopes just to crush them in the end :)

MikeyChalupa 10-12-2004 07:44 PM

It's almost like they did it on purpose... if you're a Sox fan, it would have been better to have the final score be 8-0...

I hate the Yankees.
Pedro will take care of them tomorrow night.

GO CARDINALS....

goppers 10-12-2004 08:24 PM

UGH..... The sox are so darn good. They really are the better team here. I'm going to be a very grumpy person if they don't pull this out.

Mondak 10-12-2004 08:41 PM

Pedro can't pitch in the cold. Yanks up 2-0. Thanks Pedro....bitch.

I believe the exact quote was:

"What can I say – just tip my hat and call the Yankees my daddy," he said. "I can't find a way to beat them at this point. ... They're that good. They're that hot right now – at least against me. I wish they would disappear and not come back."

He is going to do everything he can this offseason to turn to the Dark Side. You watch for Pedro in pinstripes next year. He's basically given up and believes that if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

Whether we want him or not is another question...

-Mikey

goppers 10-13-2004 04:59 AM

I think you are 100% wrong. There is no way pedro will ever play for the yankees. I think he would retire before he pitched for them. That isn't to say he wouldn't use them to drive his price up with another team, but write it down and bring it up in the offseason if I'm wrong; pedro would never sign with the yankees.

inharmony 10-13-2004 05:05 AM

GO SOX!!! It's about time.

paddyjoe 10-13-2004 05:11 AM

I guess the series will have to go 5 now instead of just 4

Thats horseshit, when the BOTTOM of the Red Sox batting order has to step up and almost fully come back from a damn near shut out. Just imagine if Damon and Big Papi had been on top of the offensive side of things, nevermind Schilling not being able to push off the rubber with power becuase of his ankle. So about the "Yankees LETTING the Red Sox catch up". Bullshit. I dont think 7 runs in two innings is anywhere near intentional. Thats stupid fucking baseball. Only talent or luck and do that, and I dont believe in luck.

As far as Pedro goes, I dont care who is whos daddy, he better get his fucking head on straight and start earning his fucking paycheck.

dylanmarsh 10-13-2004 05:49 AM

nice job stirring up the hornet's nest in here, Mikey.

we both know it's gonna be a long series, so I'll refrain from any trash talking or insults until the end of the series.

I gotta ask, though, does the Yankees giving up 7 runs on 10 hits in three innings worry you? I'd be more worried about that than Schilling not showing up next time.

You misunderstood. I wasn't saying the Yankees were letting the Sox back into the game. I was saying it seemed as if the Sox were intentionally breaking their fans' hearts AGAIN. I should have used a smiley. :)

If, if, if... if the Sox hadn't taken the first 6 innings off, if Damon hadn't K'd 4 times, if Schilling wasn't hurt... hey, Schilling's a competitor and I admire that, I always have. Few players burn the way he does to win. But there's NO FREAKIN WAY he should have tried to pitch last night. He put a big question mark on the one pitcher who has been the most consistent for the Sox this season. He was expected to pitch a possible third time this series... now you have to worry about his ankle the rest of the way. He should have given the ball away and used the time to rest his leg. If the Sox lose this series, especially in 7 games (which the Sox tend to do) that will be the decision that is agonized over all offseason, much like last year's was Grady leaving Pedro in too long. Unless the rest of this series holds some more truly memorable chuckleheaded moments for the Sox.

When people talk about the Yankees weakness this year, they point to the pitching staff. With a questionable Schilling, and always emotionally unstable Pedro, and improved but still vulnerable bullpen, I think the Sox have their share of problems with their staff too. Now it's up to the Yankees to exploit those weaknesses, and exploit them they will.

You don't believe in luck? Me neither. But I do believe in the Curse. Because if you don't believe in luck, how else do you explain the Red Sox? That for the last 86 years they've just hired an unbelievably long string of stupid managers, the players who will be most susceptible to choking, who can't play under pressure, and in all that time can't make all the pieces fit just ONE TIME? While the Yankees have done it 26 times? The Florida Marlins have been in existence barely 10 years and have already done it twice, INCLUDING going through the Yankees to do it.

Although, Sox fans must admit, if the Sox DO win the series this year, they will have won it the "Yankee" way, and bought it. They have the second highest payroll and two of the three highest paid players. A-Rod may be the highest, but Texas wrote that contract, not Steinbrenner, (which Boston was ready to take on) and they still pay a lot of his salary. I have no problem with that, but it's time to stop calling us the Evil Empire when you've turned to the Dark Side as well.

-Mikey

Esen 10-13-2004 02:39 PM

Someone said that Pedro would never go to the Yankees.

Well if he ever wants to have a worldseries champion ring he will :)

I think it is starting to dawn on him as long as he is a Red Sox he has no chance to be on the winning world series team.

Even if they make it to the world series they can not win.

There is one way and one way only for them to ever ever win a world series, they have to tear down their stadium and go to a new one.
Bottom line.

Honestly I do feel bad for all the Red sox fans. It must suck.

crewsor 10-13-2004 02:52 PM

Touche, Mikey. At least you are a Yankee fan that knows his shit. Fortunately in not im the mood to go into an argument, mainly becuause im watching the game and Im waiting for my delivery to come... I dont like the kind of fan that just stays in the closet until the yankees win. That and Massachusetts Yankees fans... BLASPHEMY!!

MikeyChalupa 10-13-2004 07:40 PM

Pedro... today was FATHER'S DAY.

Yanks up, 2-0. I gotta say, I'm VERY happy with the Yankees pitching this series.

-Mikey

MacGuyver 10-13-2004 07:43 PM

Pedro had a better game than he normally does against the Yanks, so I'm not dissapointed with him so much as i am with our defense not supporting him as well as they could have. Also Batters 1-5 need to take off thier skirts and start playing ball like its thier fucking job... oh SHIT! it IS thier job!!! Who'da thunk...

quicksteal 10-14-2004 11:21 AM

Now that they're going to Fenway, it's a whole different ballgame. But I still like Kevin Brown over Bronson Arroyo. So far, the Yankees have been the much superior team

MacGuyver 10-14-2004 08:17 PM

Bronson Arroyo will own at Fenway. The problem is the rest of the team stepping up and playing hardball.

MikeyChalupa 10-14-2004 08:55 PM

I think it's in the bag, folks. We really only need one game at Fenway and then close it out in da Bronx. And instead of Schilling in Game 5, the Sox will send Derek Lowe...

-Mikey

MacGuyver 10-15-2004 02:38 AM

Thats no good, we NEED to go to game 7 again! Right down to the wire baby!

jasonresno 10-16-2004 04:31 AM

It is kind of sad. This whole season was "the year" for the Red Sox. And now they are just lining up to have their hopes dashed again. The majority of the people will talk about the Yankees rotation sucking, but I ask you this: How much better is the Red Sox'? A 16-10 pedro barely has a better record than the 14-8 Jon Lieber. Curt Schilling WAS cy young worthy, but his performance in the ALCS thus far is lacking. Yankees have a serious chance to sweep seeing as they are facing Derek Lowe and...Bronson Arroyo.

canuckguy 10-16-2004 12:19 PM

the fucking "who's your daddy" chant from the crowd, and constant reference from the announcers and pre-post game shows is forcing me to vomit. and now watch with the mute on! hope it goes 7 games so it is atleast competitive. so far the boston bats are cold, and the supposed terrible yankee pitching has them looking like an double A team. still not sure if the first 6 innings of that lieber outing was great pitching or just terrible hitting. i thought lieber would get lit up, but he was in complete control for most of it.

MikeyChalupa 10-16-2004 01:15 PM

I kind of liked the "Who's your daddy" thing. MLB did too apparently, they made T-shirts for it. Well, they recalled them when the Red Sox started crying about it, but still. It's the thought that counts. I hope if Pedro pitches in the Bronx again the fans throw 50 cent pieces or mangos on the field. If he's going to make stupid statements at the press conferences, Yankee fans have the right to respond. Personally, If I was his teammate, I'd stick some duct tape over his mouth after every start, win or lose. Anyway, it's more creative than "Yankees suck", especially when that sucky team has YOUR team backed into a corner and has owned them for the last 86 years.

I'm a Rangers fan, and I HATED hearing "1940" from Islanders fans. But what did the Rangers do to make that stop? Win the Cup. My favorite part of the Rangers winning the Cup was the Rangers fans chanting "1940" one last time, as if to say "We'll never have to hear this shit again after we're finished."

Want us to stop chanting "1918?" WIN THE WORLD SERIES. We'll stop, we promise.

I do agree with you about the announcers though. Buck and McCarver in particular and Fox Sports in general should be forever banned from showing any type of sporting event on TV.

-Mikey

canuckguy 10-16-2004 01:20 PM

I agree until boston steps up and actually wins something then they are going to be owned by the yankee's for years and years at this rate!

Have you seen the new budwiser commerical with Joe Buck, were they want him to come up with a catch phrase. damn there good!

You're dreaming, Everyone knows Yankee fans have way too much class to be chucking things onto the field. Even though certain players bring it on themselves by having the nerve to voice an opinion.

Hey, voicing your opinion is one thing. Going from:

May 2001: "Wake up the Bambino and have me face him, maybe I'll drill him in the ass."

to last month's: "What can I say – just tip my hat and call the Yankees my daddy. I can't find a way to beat them at this point. ... They're that good. They're that hot right now – at least against me. I wish they would disappear and not come back."

to this week's rambling, incoherent babble:

"Today I was the center of attention of the whole city of New York. I thank God for that. I don't like to brag about myself, but they did make me feel important. It actually made me feel really, really good. I actually realized that I was somebody important, because I caught the attention of 60,000 people, plus you guys [reporters], plus the whole world watching a guy that if you reverse time back 15 years ago, I was sitting under a mango tree without 50 cents to actually pay for a bus. And today I was the center of the attention of the whole city of New York. I thank God for that and you know what? I don't regret one bit what they do out there. I respect them and I actually kind of like it because I don't like to brag about myself, I don't like to talk about myself, but they made me feel important. I did whatever possible to actually keep my team in the fight. I can't do anything if we don't score runs. Whenever I'll get the support, I don't know."

Come on, Sox fans, tell me you didn't have a problem with that.

This is unacceptable when you are supposed to be the ace of your staff, a leader on your team. Pedro is admitting defeat, conceding the series and the season. The Yankees and their fans are beating the Sox not only on the field but in their heads too. That is why the Curse survives and the Yankees continue to own the Sox. Not because the Yankees buy their teams, the Sox spend more than any other team in baseball except the Yankees and the margin between the two gets smaller every year. Not because of Fenway Park, and not even because of Babe Ruth. It's because the Sox have a loser's mentality. They beat themselves. They give up. The Yankees expect to win. YOU have to beat them, because they won't beat themselves. Once you have been to the top, you want to get back there. The Yankees are driven by that desire to be Champions. Boston is simply not. Pedro is a prime example. He acts like a whiny primadonna. He is late to team meetings or misses them altogether. Love Jeter or hate him (envy him, more like it), he is an example of the Yankee mentality. So is Bernie Williams, and Mariano Rivera. Quiet winners who let their actions and accomplishments on the field define them, not post-loss soundbites.

Who knows, it might be because of Babe Ruth. Interestingly enough, at the time of Pedro's May 2001 challenge to the Bambino, he was 7-1 with a 1.44 ERA. Afterwards, he suffered an injury to his rotator cuff, managed only seven more starts and was 0-2 with a 4.54 ERA. The Sox lost their remaining 7 games to the Yankees that season.

Heh Heh well so far in the first inning the only thing that bronson owns is a spanking. He got his ass handed to him with 3 runs.

Who knows, if any team can come back its the red sox. but lol they are sucking so bad, I am filled with joy.

I mean they are hardly giving a fight. I hope they do something this is almost too easy.

Everyone kept on saying this year that the Red sox are the superior team.
I can honestly tell you that is incorrect.
The Yankees had more wins and less losses then the Redsox in the regular season and have been the better team so far in the play- offs.
That is fact.

The Red sox though to their credit are a very dangerous team so its not over untill its over.
for now though all I can say is.

Whose your daddy?

Esen 10-16-2004 06:22 PM

11-6
Yankees

canuckguy 10-16-2004 06:40 PM

I know, the yankee's are just taking it to them, bronson was terrible, then to make outs at 3rd and at home is just retarded. oh ny just scored again 12-6.....

wrongfullyaccuzd 10-16-2004 06:43 PM

13-6, now, just seconds later. Well, A-Rod has definitely proven himself a post-season stud. Speaking of, Matsui's up now...
So....sweep?

canuckguy 10-16-2004 06:51 PM

originally i was hoping for boston to win (i am a jays fan so my team was out of it in spring training!) but now i hope ny sweeps it so we can just get the season over with. now stuck with cheering for the winner of houston/st.louis.

It'll be really interesting if Houston pulls out the win and Clemens comes back to Yankee Stadium - -that's my dream match up. :)

BTW -- what was up with the National Anthem -- that was one of the worst renditions I've ever heard...

Plus, Jeter can show Carlos Beltran around Yankee Stadium and let him pick out a locker and uniform number. And if you thought Pedro got a warm welcome, I can't wait to see what Yankee fans have in store for Rocket. Imagine... something Red Sox fans and Yankee fans agree on: Clemens is a traitor. Go ahead and put him in a Sox cap when he goes into the HOF. I miss Pettitte more anyway. It's a moot point though; St. Louis will win the pennant.

I missed the National Anthem, the ship didn't pick up the satellite feed until the bottom of the 1st, but I thought God Bless America wasn't bad. A bit rushed, not like at Yankee Stadium, but a very good rendition.

Yea, that is the one thing with Boston, you really cannot count em out untill its over.

The funny thing is that they are so erratic and so not in synch that they can actually win games by accident.

They have written so many checks that cannot cash.
You remember right before the series how they were going 11-0, 11-0 lol

Not for nothing didn't the Yankees win their last 6 play-off games?
Thats pretty impressive in it self

dylanmarsh 10-17-2004 10:44 AM

Now mind you, I have given up on the Sox. I have learned to recognize death over the years with this team and they are not going to the World Series this year. However, I could see this series being extended back to the Bronx.

Lowe was a much better pitcher at home during the season and has the added benefit/pressure of playing for a contract in a one game setting. Obviously, if Lowe shows up and pitches the way he is capable, the Sox have a good chance in Game 4.

Assuming the Sox take tonight's game, then we move onto Pedro in Game 5. Say what you will about Pedro against the Yankees and how he isn't the same pitcher he was 5 years ago, Pedro is still Pedro and he will not give up for anything. The Sox have a good chance in Game 5 if Pedro shows up like he did in Game 2.

Game 6 and 7, if by some alignment of the planets the Red Sox make it there, will hinge on Curt producing a solid outing along with Arroyo.

Again, I think the Sox are dead but there are always possibilities when the Yankees haven't won for the 4th time, yet.

-Mikey

MikeyChalupa 10-17-2004 10:02 PM

And here's a better picture of Pedro, who seems to be doing everything he can do to "come home to daddy". As one Boston sportswriter put it, after Game 2 he "did everything but sing along with Frank Sinatra after the game." I'm looking forward to his post-game interview.

i know the odds are stacked against them, but i hope it goes to 7 games, considering only game 4 was exciting so far. was shocked that ny when 1-2-3 in the first inning. usually were up a touchdown before boston ever picked up a hit.

MikeyChalupa 10-18-2004 11:24 AM

Three key plays in Game 4 come to mind. Matsui getting thrown out at home, Bernie out at third, and Jeter sacrificing. Yes, he did his job, and moved the runner over, but at that point in the game you have to go for the kill and have Jeter swing away. Still, the series is ours to lose.

-Mikey

Beatlefan58 10-18-2004 01:05 PM

I turned off the first game when it was 8-0 (not a big fan of either team), and missed most of the next two. I saw the bulk of last night's game, and thought to myself when it was in the 5th inning "you know, teams sweep four game series from time to time, it COULD happen." Teams come back from 3-1 now and then, and it's just one more game (or a game won before the 4th game). I don't want to sound like a die-hard Sox fan, because I'm not, but the Yankee pitching staff is not the one I'd want trying to win one more game if I had my choices.

Who knows, maybe the first time in history a team gets off the deck and wins 4 in a row? Not likely, but . . .

YAY SOX!!!

MacGuyver 10-18-2004 07:28 PM

All you Yanks fans should have waited til it was over. Cause its not over yet. Oh, and,

Okay, now I'm pissed. This series will end tonight in New York, but our inability to close out this series or hold a late-inning lead does not bode well for the next round...

No matter who you support (yes I'm a sox fan and have been for years) you have to admire the heart of the sox. We've really played hard. The yanks have also but you know what.. we did something to the yanks that hasn't been done before last night. Handed them back to back extra innings losses in the the postseason. Arroyo was brilliant and so was Wakefield. If I had to predict what was going to happen..I'd say Lieber gets his ass handed to him.

JohnnyRock 10-19-2004 06:53 AM

Looks like the Sox are setting their fans up for another heartbreaking series...losers!!!

crewsor 10-19-2004 12:17 PM

I hate them both, but I hate the Yanks more. Go Sox. It would be sweet to see the Yanks lose after being up 3-0.

:D thats probably the same feeling of most people not from boston/ny. myself, i could care less about either teams, but i am cheering for boston, because they have not won in so so long. as well its nice to see new champions every now and then. god tonight is going to suck with the constant chants of "who's your daddy". like a bad commerical and i've misplaced the effing remote!

that chant shouldn't be an issue since pedro isn't pitching..

canuckguy 10-19-2004 12:57 PM

na, the minute they score or go up a run, or strike a batter or for that matter breath I am sure I will hear it. over and over. not unless some how boston scores first. not likely with the damon leading off. dude is in the tank. that attempted steal by him and then ortiz was just sad. you gotta make it if your going for it in that situation. although posada did make an excellent throw on damon.

quicksteal 10-19-2004 01:35 PM

The Yankees left 20 people on base last night...that's 20 chances to close out a series, and they're just not doing it. Boston has really taken advantage of hitting last at home. They won't have that luxury for the rest of the series. And if Schilling really has a hurt tendon, then he won't last very long in Game 6, and the Red Sox bullpen is getting tired fast. I hate the Red Sox, so the sooner they lose, the happier I'll be.

Beatlefan58 10-19-2004 01:51 PM

I know the Sox know a lot more about Schilling's condition than I do, but I'd be nervous everytime he used that leg. I know a reliever has a lot of time to warm up in case of injury, but I'd have someone stretching out a bit from the very start.

jorgelito 10-19-2004 02:12 PM

I think it's been an amazing series no matter how you look at it or which team you like. IT's been such a pitched, fierce battle. I wonder if the winner will even have anything left for the World Series.

If the Sox can't do it tonight then, I don't know. What else can you do? 2nd highest payroll, loaded talent, huge fan base. I mean, the Sox did so well during the regular season. I still can't believe they dropped the first three games. Well I hope they found their stride now.

Halx 10-19-2004 05:57 PM

this series has given me a reason to watch baseball since the dodgers and angels have been eliminated

Kadath 10-19-2004 07:27 PM

Watching A-Rod get caught trying to cheat just now was like a religious experience for me.

lol, and then A-Rod trying to play it off like he was just running was even more priceless. Then, to top it off Yankee fans show their brilliance by throwing baseballs on the field. Quite entertaining.

MacGuyver 10-19-2004 07:31 PM

Nice moves A-rod. I see how it is now, So thats how y'all Yankees play, huh?

djtestudo 10-19-2004 07:35 PM

A little vocabulary test for all those lovely fans in the Bronx...can we say "forfeit", boys and girls? Because that's what happens when you throw too much crap on the field.

BTW, Joe Morgan needs to grow some eyeballs.

What happened, i forgot to flip the channel back to the game?

Rodriguez hit a slow roller down the first-base line. Arroyo and Mientkewitz went for it. Arroyo picked it up, saw no one covering first, and went to tag Rodriguez, who swung his arm up and smacked Arroyo's arm, knocking the ball out of the glove. Runner's interferance.

Plan9Senior 10-19-2004 07:39 PM

Yankee fans are showing some real class this evening /rolleyes

They should be ashamed...

goddfather40 10-19-2004 07:43 PM

And now police in riot gear! I am laughing hysterically.

oh so true, a-rod did his best to sell it. nearly tipped my beer on that one. now they have police and riot gear on the field. class, nothing like needing riot police for a baseball game. nice fans.

I do believe I just crapped my pants. :D

*throws crapped pants in general direction of field to fit in*

Lockjaw 10-19-2004 07:48 PM

Man I'm glad I flipped over to the game...this is the first baseball I've watched in 3 months and flipping over just in time to see the circus break out was well worth it.

Gotta love the Yankees and their fans. Always good for some controversy. Throwing baseballs on the fields and A-fraud trying to cheat...wonderful lol!
Man I hope they lose to the Sox so badly I can't stand it.
Stros and Sox in the Series would be so sweet indeed.

1slOwCD8 10-19-2004 07:48 PM

Would Yankee fans really start a riot just cuz they might not go to the world series for the 120th time?

Lockjaw 10-19-2004 07:57 PM

They are New Yorkers would you put it past them? ;) Just kidding guys.

MacGuyver 10-19-2004 07:58 PM

Theyre damn near close to it, and the series isnt even over if the sox win tonight. Why so upset?

That remark makes me very, very happy, even if it is a little mean.

I admit, when the Sox went down 0-3 I said they had no heart. Those words taste delicious.
