Warren Sapp
Alright I'm seriously getting sick of Warren Sapp. I used to like him, you know, big goofy guy, good (but IMHO overrated) player, outspoken, the whole package. But lately he's just crossed the line. Now I admit, before the story with LaVarr broke, I didn't know about Sapp's skipping through the other team's warmups. Once I heard it though, I thought it was a little messed up, immature. Then he bumped the official, which I saw the replay of 90,000 times because I live near DC. Then he kicked the pylon over, and made the slavery comments, and blames everything on the fact that the NFL won't let him market himself.
I'm watching an interview with Keyshawn right now on NFL countdown, and he's outspoken too, and but he hasn't turned into a punk. Maybe I'm just mad at these millionaires complaining about stupid stuff. As Steve Young said this morning on ESPN, "The thing that gets to me most is millionaire players arguing with billionaire owners about MONEY." Anyway, thoughts on Sapp? |

Won't let him market himself? Stop a guy on the street and ask him to name a Tampa Bay Buccaneer. 95 out of a hundred will name Sapp.
The NFL has made you a multi-milltionaire. Don't bite the hand that feeds you, Sapp. If you love football but hate the NFL, go play in Canada. I'm sure the marketing opportunities up there are much better than they are in the NFL. -Mikey |

It's just his personality IMO. He's that kind've in your face loud mouth type of guy, so doing something like this doesn't surprise me at all. He needs to have his coaches humble him, or learn some self discipline!
He is a great Defensive Tackle, you have to respect what he accomplishes on the field and ignore what happens off the field because in the long run that doesn't matter. |

Warren Sapp is a free agent after this year.
He isn't the brightest guy in the world - cause he is literally costing himself money. The more teams in the running for him, the more he'll make. But not if he scares some teams away. Who would want to put up with his antics while tying up a huge portion of your salary cap to him? The sad thing is that the Bucs have not played as well as they should. Sapp needs to play for the Bucs - not just Warren Sapp. |

I really dislike Sapp too. At first he didn't seem that bad but now as time goes on he starts becoming more and more of an ass and more and more of a punk. How immature do you have to be to bump an official. In my opinion he is getting way too cocky.

Warren S may be the greatest def lineman in the nfl. Then he screws it up by acting so juvenile. He will be a free agent and if he goes to someone other than tb he will find he doesn't have as good a supporting cast -then he will find out how hard nfl football really is.

Say what you want about the guy but he is good for the NFL just like T.O. and they know it. That is why these guys are given so much lee-way before penalized and why they get so much airtime.
The NFL knows people tune in for the sound-bytes and to watch the antics. Football has always had a cast of characters. Joe Namath used to catch shit for wearing a fur coat on the sideline but last year the NFL had an ad featuring Don Cheadle about this as a prmotion for the league. The NFL and Sapp know exactly what is going on and what they are doing. This thread proves it because its got people talking.

yeah he keeps digging himself deeper and deeper into a hole till it gets to a point that nobody will want to listen or watch him. He needs to shut his damn mouth and play the game and stop skipping and bumping into people. It's old and tired and you really aren't even playing well this year so shut up and find your game!!

I wonder how he'd look in the Ravens' 3-4 system...
He'd be reunited with his buddy Ray Lewis, and be the only guy who could out-talk Ray.

That would totally kill the defensive chemistry the Raven's have. We have a good thing going with Ray as the leader and everybody in that D ready to follow him anywhere.
Sapp would kill that and just wreak havoc on a solid group of players.

Personally, I think that we could sign Dennis Rodman and the chemistry would improve, as long as we rid ourselves of McAlister.

McAlister could improve or be replaced but I do not think we want to touch the line or the LBs. I was a little nervous about Suggs joing that corps but he has found his place and fit in very nicely. Need to be careful about bringing someone in who needs a lot of "face time".
On the flip-side it could be a rude awakening for Sapp to join a team that already has its core that he will have to adjust to fit into instead of everyone trying to accomodate him.

I'm sure he would get picked up. I wouldn't be crazy about him being a Raven though. We've had our share of losers already. I think he would be a huge detriment to the defensive chemistry of the Ravens. McAllister is an idiot, but I think he at least trys to get along with teammates, which I don't think Sapp would do. He's all about me.
