Another Cubs playoffs question
Much has been made of the schedule difference between the Cubs and Astros. With Houston's bullpen if they score a few runs the Cubs are screwed.
IMO the Cubs playoff hopes rely on two things they must win 2/3 of their remaining game or better and possibly Houston's series with the Giants. My question is with San Francisco's lock on the playoffs will they rest thru their Houston series or will they battle. Is there any resentment in San Fran because Dusty jumped to the Cubs? Any reason to see him fail? Not that any pro team would lose intentionally

I just don't think Houston's a very good team, not that the Cubs are great, but I like their chances to win a playoff series. Throw Prior and Wood in a 5 game series and if Sosa and Alou could get a little hot, they can beat anyone.
I don't think Houston could beat any of the other NL squads in a 5 or 7 game series... |

Did you see Oswalts return game? He pitched very well. Hes no Mark Prior but who is? Miller has been consitantly good and Jeriome (not a typo) Robertson has been the most consistant through the season. That on top of Houston's offense and they are a very good team capable of winning every series. The Cubs have Sosa and Alou but Houston has Bagwell, Kent, Hidalgo, Berkman, Biggio, Ensberg... There isnt a weak spot in the line-up. Now will they win every series? We shall see but if they make the playoffs I think Houston will be this years Angels.... cue the monkey!!!!

Winning 2/3rds of the remaining games they play won't be that far fetched. Wood and Prior will pitch at least 2 more times. Not to mention, if game 162 comes down to them winning, Wood or Prior will get another start.
They play the Reds and Pirates the last 9 games of the year. Houston plays the Cards/Giants and the Brewers... Houston will not be this years Angels, that pitching staff is tired, and the lineup sounds good, put they don't consistently produce. The only thing Houston has that keeps them in games is that bullpen, it's quite good. |

And the biggest question mark on the Cubs is their bullpen. Will be an interesting finish to the year for this Cubs fan, however I just don't feel its the Cubs year. I do feel though that the foundation is on place for some kick ass baseball for years to come. Wood/Prior/Zambrano/Clement are all young. If the stay healthy (a big if) the Cubs will straighten out their bull pen and then we'll see a complete team. Hendry has reubilt this team into a contender and will continue to do so. |

The Giants won't rest their starters, cuz they are in a battle with Atlanta for homefield throughout the NLCS. Cubs just can't take anything for granted against the Reds and Bucs now. Also, Houston has 7 games left, while the Cubs have 6.
