WTF Happened to 'Da Bears?

Man, I needed 'Da Beers after watching the Bears game yesterday. Damn, did they suck. What the hell happened? They couldn't run, they couldn't pass, they couldn't field punts. I can't believe I'm gonna say this, but, thank God for the Cubs and White Sox. Eww, I feel so dirty. I hate baseball, but at least they're playing well. Ugh, it's gonna be a long season.

Did you expect something better with Kordell running the offense??

The problem here is that the Bears had that one fluke season were they went 12-4 with the weakest schedule ever. They only beat one playoff team that year (the Niners), only on a fluke play to force overtime and then sqeaked by there. Every other time they played a quality opponent that season, including the playoffs, they got destroyed. But they had a pathetically easy schedule and weak division (still managed to get swept by the Packers) and Chicago fans thought they were back. Unfortunately, it was all an illusion. Jauron should have been fired years ago. This is a team that should be trying to rebuild slowly, but because of that fluke season, the fans expect a contender, and are disappointed when they have a game like sunday. The decision to sign Kordell was not very bright, and it looks like the A-Train has lost his magic. Urlacher may be incredible, but he needs quality players around him like Roosevelt Colvin. They need to use Urlacher to anchor a dominating defense and use a ball-control offense that doesn't turn the ball over. So why would you sign Slash?

I figured with Slash, they'd at least have a quarterback who could run not hobble out of the pocket. I'm sure they got him for his running ability. The offensive line (and it is pretty offensive) is a sieve. He'll be broken pretty soon and then it'll be Chandler's turn to get a concussion, leaving the offense to Grossman. At least he can hit his receivers.

Prediction: Grossman starts by week five.

Kordell is Kordell, he can't play evenly. This is bad in a league where a not-flashy, even keeled guy can go all the way. Kordell will either win or lose a game for you.

But in Chicago, they've got more problems. The ofensive line is downright awful. Marty Booker is the only skill guy that is a threat. The backs are "by committee", which is never good.

The defensive line is not particularly good.

Chicago may be able to pick up a RB or WR with the number one pick next year...

Don't blame this all on Kordell. If a pitcher throws a no hitter but still loses 1-0 because of a throwing error on the third baseman do you blame the pitcher?

Jake Plummer had a worse performance than Kordell but due to the fact that the Broncos have a more superior team all around than the Bears they were able to win in spite of Plummer going 12-25 with 3 ints. That fluke season the Bears had has really given their fans a false sense of hope.

Da Bears should have spent the money on some offensive linemen and not on Kordell. Sure, Kordell can probably run well enough to avoid getting crushed when the opposing D comes through untouched, but it doesn't give the rest of the team much room to use regular running plays unless Kordell can throw the ball downfield.

Exactly. You could put Montana in his prime back there and he'd get killed. The problem is that he has no protection from the line, receivers dropping passes (namely Dez White), and a running game led by a running back who has enough trouble keeping his footing, let alone hitting the open holes. The defense did get whooped, but take a look at what they had to work with. Every time they would stop the 49ers, the offense or special teams would turn the ball over in or near the red zone. No defense could hold up under that. Especially with the weak corners that the Bears have. The Bears number one priority is to fire offensive coordinator John Shoop (I was saying this back in the 13-3 season) and then fire Dick Jauron. I like Greg Blache. The guy continues to show class even though the team doesn't give him a damned thing to work with and lets him continually go out there to take the blame.

The Bears got killed for one main reason.

The management is crap.

Their defense is in shambles, which happens if you trade away Teddy Washington for a fucking DRAFT PICK.

Any major moves to improve the offensive line? Not a chance. Any attempt at getting a running back? No, of course not, Anthony Thomas is their back of the future

Kordell was getting killed because the Niners could put 8 or 9 in the box on every play. It doesn't matter if Kordell or Rex is in there, whoever is under center for the Bears this year is going to get creamed.

The Scotsman fished the fly out of his beer and continued drinking it, as if nothing had happened. The Irishman, too, picked the fly out of his drink but then held it out over the beer and yelled "SPIT IT OUT, SPIT IT OUT, YOU BASTARD!"

if you were referring to the North Sydney Bears... the good old red and black... well, they went under financially (after the superleague debarkle i believe) a little while ago.

sad to see a great team/institution vanish... like the Balmain TIgers, and the West Magpies...merging... thats sad too... and what about the Illawarra Steelers... sad...

but, since we apparently talking about gridiron, then i have absolutely no idea... perhaps they ´picked the wrong guys´...?

Okay, at least the defense showed up this week. I thought for sure they were gonna get pasted this week in Minnesota, but, no. Thankfully, Minnesota shot themselves in the foot a few times. So, do I hear any other 0-6 predictions?
