As for Koscheck, I never really hated him like most people do but damn is he annoying on the show. You can dish it out but can't take it, well I don't even think he can dish it out very well. The things he says are just unfunny and it seems like he's trying way too hard. The thing about the medic though is ridiculous. The scene where Koscheck tried to choke him was heavily edited. In the unedited version, the medic was talking all kinds of shit about Sevak, one of Koscheck's fighters, before the choking nonsense but that wasn't seen on the show. Oh well, Koscheck has made me a fan of GSP. haha |
What a robbery. Wow.

yeah it was awful. Rampage seemed to acknowledge that he didn't win as well.
BJ Penn vs Jon Fitch was announced. That's going to be awesome. |
The problem I had with the Rampage/Machida score was the judges seem to be too scared to give a 10-10 round. Sometimes no one wins a round. The first could have easily been a 10-10 round.
Rampage, IMO, won the second and Machida won the third. At worst the fight should have been a draw. I'm really kind of looking forward to BJ/Fitch. I can't wait to see Fitch take BJ down and ride him out to a 30-27 decision just to hear what kind of excuse BJ has this time. |

I am excited to see Fitch dominate BJ. Wouldn't it be great if he submits or GnP's Penn? Everyone always says Fitch is 'boring', and it would be awesome to see him finish someone like BJ. Fitch is so much bigger than Penn and they are both extremely talented so I think the size difference will be a big problem for BJ. |
BJ has really good sub defense so I kinda doubt Fitch will finish him unless BJ shows up out of shape or Fitch really grinds him down in rounds 1 and 2 and then manages to sub him in round 3.
Really BJ's best bet is to train hard at takedown defense. If, and that's a big if, he can stuff Fitch's takedowns and keep the fight standing he has way better boxing and should be able to outpoint Fitch on his way to a decision. |

Anybody see the StrikeForce event last night? Daley's KO of Smith was absolutely brutal. One of the best KO's of the year IMO.

That decision was an absolute joke. I can see MAYBE giving Garcia the first round, but there's no way Pham lost either the second or third round.

Yeah, judging needs to be fixed badly.

Man Koscheck's eye looked bad. I was actually kind of surprised it wasn't a doctor's stoppage.
I thought when the doctor let it go after the third, they'd sit down in the fourth and call it because Kos clearly couldn't see out of that eye and the damage was just getting worse. |

It's been a few days but how did you guys score Maynard/Edgar?
Personally I had it as a draw as well R1: 10-8 Maynard R2: 10-9 Edgar R3: 10-9 Maynard R4: 10-9 Edgar R5: 10-9 Edgar What a fantastic fight though, it's been a while since there has been a super-competitive championship fight. On the other side of competitive though just caught the Overeem/Duffee fight from the New Years Eve event for the Dream HW title. Talk about destruction. Also something I'm super-hyped about is StrikeForce's Heavyweight tournament for 2011. There's the potential for some damn good fights here. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._3227764_n.jpg EDIT: That's Big Foot Silva that Fedor's fighting in the first round btw. |
I'm so excited for the SF heavyweight tournament! I think they have a much deeper pool at heavyweight than UFC. Cain and JDS and possibly Nelson (and he won't be fighting for som time due to contractual issues with another organization) are all the ufc really has and it pisses me off every time Dana disregards SF's heavyweight division.
Yeah that destruction of Duffee was crazy. I found it hilarious they were pushing him as the next big thing until the hilarious Russow knockout. The Edgar/Maynard fight was incredible. People were saying it was going to be super boring because of their fighting styles but it was awesome. I personally had it scored the same way as you except I had round 3 a draw giving edgar the win 48-47. I could see how one could make an argument for that round going to either edgar or maynard though. I just think that edgar did enough to win the round on the feet and that takedown by maynard that he did nothing with wasn't enough to secure the round for him. He looked incredibly sluggish in those rounds but I figured that since edgar won most of the round and. Maynard getting the takedown could make it a 10-10 round. What I can't understand is how a judge gave round 5 to Maynard. And he came as seriously whiny after the fight and in the post fight press conference. Just like he did when he knocked himself out against Emmerson and he still denies that he was out to this day which is ridiculous. It was an awesome night of fights though! And the Dynamite show was awesome too. I'm looking forward to this year in fights! |
!
I am looking forward to the UFC here in Toronto in April. GSP is lined up to fight Shields and Randy Coulter is also scheduled to fight. It's going to be epic!!!! Gonna be at the bar with my buddies to watch it!
|
I just read that Scott Coker is looking to bring StrikeForce to Ontario for part of the HW tournament.
There is no way I'm lucky enough that it'll be the event with the Werdum/Overeem winner facing Fedor (assuming he beats Big Foot), because the likelyhood of me getting decent seats for StrikeForce is way better than getting decent seats for the UFC. |
Any one else excited for the Jones Bader fight tonight? Jones is always fun to watch. The whole card looks great. I used to like Silva but the way he's acted over the last while makes me hoping he loses tonight.

Sadly I only picked one fight right and it was the one I really didn't want.
I thought Bader was going to be able to take Jones down and grind out a win. I'm curious how Jones will do against Shogun though, that's a HUGE step up in talent level from Bader. I thought Rich might be too fast for Forrest. I hoped Vitor would take out Anderson, but I thought it would be a KO victory for Anderson. Guess I was right on that one, and man what a nice kick. |

Strikeforce GP starts this weekend. I swear Fedor's one of the few fighters I get nervous every time he fights.

Looks like we'll be seeing a bunch of new fights in the future. UFC and Strikeforce are now under the same umbrella. However, it sounds like Strikeforce is going to play out it's current contracts with Showtime and their fighters before any type of merger takes place.
Zuffa Purchases Strikeforce -- MMA Fighting |
It'll be interesting to see what becomes of SF under Zuffa after the Showtime contracts are up.
Best case scenario, I think, is for Zuffa to set SF up as the Triple A version of the UFC. SF still has some very good things to offer. 1) The Challenger's Series is one of the best things to grow young talent in MMA. 2) Use it to give both exposure and experience to guys that aren't quite ready for the big time yet. 3) Dana doesn't want women's MMA in the UFC, so keep it in SF. |
I dislike Jones' personality but damn he's a beast.
|
Anybody watch fight night live on Saturday? That twister by Chan Sung Jung was just sick. And with just one second left in the second round. First twister in UFC history and it looked very painful.

I look forward to seeing the KZ fight, win or lose every time he's on a card.
You just know it's gonna be a hell of a fight. And yeah that Twister was amazing. |

I know. How did he get the win over Pham? I am not a big Hardy fan, but I was hoping he'd win because he's good for the UFC. |
Even if some people obstinately want to include the fight against the 7 foot guy, it doesnt make much difference, does it?
|
One week until 129!
Picks? Mine are GSP, Aldo, Machida for the three main events. BTW - If you haven't heard Randy has announced his retirement (again). Randy Couture Says He’s Going to Retire For Real This Time | Cagepotato Sounds like we'll never see the Randy/Fedor fight that seemed closer than ever when Zuffa bought Strikeforce. |

GSP is gonna dominate! (keep fingers crossed:)) Great card and I'm excited for the atmosphere with 55,000 fans screaming. Being a proud Canadian I have to be cheering for Hominick, Pierson, Patrick and MacDonald. I hope Jason MacDonald comes back strong with this being his first fight since he broke his leg. UFC Connected on Sportsnet here in Canada had a nice 45 minute bio on him. He runs two gyms, trains, and raises four kids with his wife in Red Deer. Seemed like a down to earth, committed guy.
|
Watching the prelims on Facebook. Great triangle from Jason MacDonald! The spinning backfist from Makdessi was perfectly timed. Canada, 2 for 2 so far!
