CAA: Climbing Addicts Anonymous...
Anyone else out there a climber?
Some people call it a sport, but I think it's more of an addiction. At first, I only climbed every once in a while. Then, I started climbing every week, and it escalated to two or more times a week. Then my friend stopped going that often, and I lost my ride. That's when the withdrawl symptoms began to kick in. I find myself climbing anything that I can find... trees, buildings, stair railings, whatever I can use. After a few hours of climbing, your hands are killing you. Sometimes, I climb until I rip the skin off of my fingers from grabbing the rocks. Then I usually tape up my hands and keep going. I guess it just brings out the masochist in me. I get such a high (no pun intended) off climbing, I usually don't really notice the pain until later. Am I just that wierd, or are there other people out there who are similarly addicted to rock climbing?

I used to climb competetively for a while. What a whole different world that was. For starters, it was indoors. Secondly it was immensely competitive. It's bad enough when you have your own personal drive destroying your hands, but even worse to have even more outside influence. The positive thing was all the support and community that spawned from the competetiveness. My skills really jumped during that period from all of the advice and training I had exposure to.
