A drink?

I was wondering when it is ok to ask a guy out for a drink. My boss thinks its fine as long as you know his name. Any other suggestions?

I guess it really depends on you... I would suggest that you know him before asking him out for a drink, but I'm sure that if you asked a guy that you didn't know, he would be pleasantly surprised.

Ya..I know i would be surprised if a girl asked me out for a drink, This right here seems like a rare occurance to me. A girl asking a guy out..Go for it, He will be surprised more than anything and it most likely be a good surprise.

I know I would be pleasantly surprised. Knowing his name is probably enough, though it would probably help if he knew yours as well.

I think in this day and age, it's OK to ask a guy out if you know his name

I don't think you need any special advice for this, as long as you're comfortable with it, just approach him with the suggestion, he can either say yes or no, right? And I bet he won't say no.

i've gotta agree with everyone else. if you're comfortable doing it, then do it. the guy would welcome the change in the game.

Clearly it will feel a little bit assertive if you ask first, but guys in this decade are adjusted pretty well to girls that can assert themselves. I would say though, that he/she who asks, expects to pay the tab.

I know I would be happily surprised if a girl asked me out. But for heavens sake, do not fling yourself on him. That really turns me off.

Also, just curious here, but why should as girl know the guy's name before asking him out? Say you are living in an apartment building and you have a neighbor you are really attracted to. You often share the elevator with him or her, and always have a nice chat while in the elevator. If they really hit it off, the girl should not ask the guy out if she does not know his name? What significance is there is knowing a name?

Is it okay for a guy to ask a girl out even if he does not know her name? If so, why should it be different for guys and girls? Just curious.. Never heard the rule that a girl must know a guy's name before asking him out.

Well, I say go for it, even if you do not know his name.

Like Carn said, flinging yourself is not the way to go. But I must say that if a girl asked me out for a drink or something, I would love it.

Although I think the way the guy phrased it sounds egotistical and chauvanistic (I just butchered that poor word), but... he's got a point. Personally, I'm attracted to women who take the initiative and control at times, barring overbearance or pushiness. It's an admirable quality to have and I just happen to find it amazingly attractive.

If a woman approached me because she found me attractive I would at the very least be flattered, but more than likely I was accept any offer she gave me because of the fact that she initiated contact with me instead if vice-versa just gave her like 20 Sexy points.

I dont see why it wouldnt be alright to do it. I would like it because, I would not have enough nerve to ask someout most of the time, unless I already had some drinks. Good luck

When I met my wife, she actually gave me her number. Now its a little more complicated story than just that. But the end result was she gave me her number before I could ask for it. 12 years (5 of them married) and a 4 year old later we are still together, so it works when the woman makes the first move. Don't be shy, go after what you want.

Thanks!

Thanks everyone! Yeah, I definitely won't be pushy...I've been there done that, and had it done to me, so I think I've had my fill of pushiness. But I'm going to do it! Now if I have the guts to do it while soaking wet after scuba diving with him in the university pool. I washed up already so what could be worse?

He may like seeing your hair all wet from getting out of the pool, also you 2 have something in common already with the diving and he already knows that your not afraid to go down (underwater that is)
