There are many different antidepressants, each with different side effects for different people. Does she consider it to be a problem? If so, the easiest/best solution for her is to discuss it with her doctor.

Yes that can be the case. It was so with a family member of mine. Kindof a problem for them too. Best to have to talk to the Dr. He can try some other kinds of meds. Different meds work differently for everyone. If it's a problem see what the doc can do. Otherwise - just romance her and go overboard to turn her on. If nothing it will help you two get closer emotionally if not sexually. Then when she manages to do without the meds or finds some that don't give her trouble you'll be back on course and doing even better. Good Luck.

PM galaxygirl if you like...she has used most of the various combinations of drugs. As stated before, it certainly has an effect, and please let the doctor know about it...there are many combinations that CAN lessen one of the side effects of these medications. It took GG a couple of years to get the combinations right FOR HER, everyone is different on how there body reacts to the meds...TELL THE DOC, thats number 1.

Same thing happened with my wife. She ultimately got off them. She was taking them for OCD rather than depression, and she decided that OCD was better than the loss of her sex drive. Like people have said, different drugs do different things, so try different combos.

There are several different 'families' of anti-depressant medication. Some of the most common adjust the seratonin levels in the brain. Seratonin effects the pleasure centers and can have an effect on sex drive (SSRIs include prozac, zoloft, and many others). Other medication types effect other body functions. Since sex drive is dependant in part on a wide array of body mechanisms operating in sinc, any adjustment can throw you off or maybe even fix poor sex drive problems.
This is only a layman explanation so it would be much better and safer to discuss this with her physican. They deal with this same problem quite often, and it can often be made better by a simple change of medication without having to do without effective treatment for depression. See the doctor... |

jeesh, I think not getting off would give me depression! Seriously I echo all that have said talk to the Doc. There are many SSRI's (Selective Seratonin Reuptake Inhibitors) out there but they don't all work the same way (to be honest even the scientists are not exactly sure how they work!). Hate to play trial and error with your body, but you have to weigh your wife's total well being with all the possible solutions. Good luck.
