Allergic to Semen?

I know the oldest excuse in the book right?

My GF has pretty sensitive skin in general and after sex gets kind of irritated down below. To preface, we don't use any lubricants (there's plenty of her own) or condoms.

At first we thought maybe it was as a result of my goatee because I do love to go down on her. Then I changed soaps to the same one she uses (J&J Baby Wash) thinking maybe the soap I was using was leaving a residue of some sort causing the irritation. After a process of elmination we've determined it's my semen. I guess the specific nature of it throws her out of whack and causes some irritation as gravity causes it to leak out. I've never encounted this with any other partner i've ever had nor has she. Both of us are STD free.

Having said all this we seem to have since resolved this issue for the most part by making sure she cleans real well using some wet wipes right afterwards and as things come out.

My question is basically if anyone has ever encountered this before and knows if there's something I could do on my end to help alleviate this (possibly diet?).

Thanks for your input

Are you 100% sure it's not an STI? Do you know if you don't have some sort of urinary tract infection? Whens the last time she's seen her OB/GYN?

Man, this is odd!

I had to google this. Sounds like she needs lots of exposure to your semen, with her doctor's supervision. It's not all bad, right?

Frequent Sex Helps Cure Semen Allergy
Treatment Combines Immune Therapy With Frequent Intercourse
By Daniel J. DeNoon
WebMD Health News
Reviewed by Brunilda Nazario, MD

Nov. 13, 2006 - Women allergic to their partner's semen can be cured by treatments requiring frequent sex, a New York allergist says.

But don't try it without a doctor's help. Without proper desensitization, sex can be deadly for some women allergic to semen.

Yes, some women really are allergic to sex, according to a report at this week's annual meeting of the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology in Philadelphia.

These women have powerful allergic responses to their partner's semen, says David J. Resnick, MD, acting director of the allergy division of New York Presbyterian Hospital.

Such women may suffer genital itching, burning, and swelling. In severe cases, they may break out in hives or even have trouble breathing.

At the conference, Resnick and colleagues report a case of semen allergy in a Puerto Rican woman who responded well to desensitization therapy.

Treatment, Resnick says, comes in two forms.

One is allergy shots containing small doses of the male partner's semen.

The other is a technique called intravaginal seminal graded challenge. In this treatment, which takes several hours, every 20 minutes a doctor places increasing amounts of the partner's semen in the woman's vagina.

Both treatments require that the woman and her husband have sex at least two or three times a week.

"Treatment failure is associated with couples who do not engage in frequent intercourse that re-exposes the patient to the allergen," Resnick says in a news release.

"Patients not living near their partners can refrigerate or freeze specimens so they can continue frequent exposure," he says.

Like any immunotherapy, the allergy shots or seminal challenge must be started in a facility equipped to treat hypersensitive patients for any severe anaphylactic shock reactions.

Since such life-threatening reactions are possible any time an allergic person encounters an allergen, Resnick recommends that women with semen allergies keep a self-injectable epinephrine kit on hand.

Though case reports of semen allergy are rare, many may go unrecognized. The typical patient, Resnick says, is a woman in her 20s.

Though 41% of allergic women have symptoms during their first intercourse, symptoms tend to worsen with subsequent exposures unless they undergo desensitization treatment.

Semen allergy, Resnick adds, is not a direct cause of infertility.

My first thought: Does she have any food allergies? If so, you should avoid consuming those foods.
Second thought: Wouldn't using a condom help with this situation? If she has a latex sensitivity, there are alternatives. It seems like there would be ways for her to avoid touching your semen all-together. A quick withdraw into a paper towel, etc.

As long as you're not trying to get pregnant, this doesn't seem like it should be much of an issue. I must be missing something.

I'm sure on the STD and if I have a UTI it's non-symptomatic. However that is a good point I'll have a test ran just to be sure. I had thought of this as well but don't have any of the symptoms so kind of left it at that.. Not sure on her last trip to the OB/GYN.

Thanks alot!

She would be more likely to have a urinary tract infection than yourself. Men rarely get them. For women, the symptoms usually don't include rashes, redness, or irritation. Rather, they're indicated by a frequent need to urinate.

No food allergies. She's latex sensitive and tho in a pinch they do we don't like using them. You're right it's not a relationship killer by any means just kind of an annoyance for her if anything. I was just thinking if perhaps there was something I could do or if someone else has encountered something similar.

Ah! Yes, encountering something similar...
I have a latex sensitivity. I didn't even realize latex was a problem until a co-worker noticed the rashes I was getting on my hands from latex gloves (I'm a scientist, it comes with the territory) and gave me nitrile. I've known a few people who ignored their latex sensitivity and it worsened to the point where they cannot enter a room that has latex without severe issues.

You want to keep her away from latex as much as possible. These things build. What is an annoyance for her today may lead to anaphylactic shock tomorrow. The more exposure, the worse it gets.

Here are some brands of non-latex condoms to check out:
Lifestyles Skyn
Naturalamb
Trojan Supra

So does it happen every single time? Condoms may help if you can find a kind she's not sensitive to. And it's possible your semen is just particularly acidic, so you might want to experiment with diet.

Also, is her skin sensitive to it in other areas? Could you cum on her elsewhere and it not be as much of an issue maybe?

Lifestyles Skyn are made from Poly-Isoprene - this is chemically synthesised latex - it contains no protein, and so is allergen free, but has the same strengths and weaknesses as latex (you can't use oils, and so on).

Naturalamb DO NOT stop STIs but can help prevent pregnancy - that said, in the UK they're not allowed due to the fact that they are less reliable at preventing pregnancy than latex condoms. They're made from the part of a sheep's gut that in you and I is an appendix.

Trojan Supra are made from Poly-Urethane, and can be used with almost any lubricant (not mineral oils, but anything else) - they're about half to 1/3 the thickness of regular latex condoms, but do NOT stretch, so size is critical.

I would also suggest the Female Condom (made of Nitrile rubber), which can be used with any lube and because they're wider than standard condoms, the fact that they don't stretch as far is not an issue.

Its possible she is the same way I am, and its a Ph problem, simply put I cannot handle the Ph level of semen. Its been that way with every person I've had sex with in my life. If I do not wash immediately after sex I start to get irritated and break out....yeah its not sexy but remembering to do it means I dont have to wait several days before having sex again.

Its not all that bad I just use a warm wet washcloth anytime we have intercourse and I'm good to go. If I forget.....well lets just say I havent forgotten in a very long time lol

It's a fair chance that is is pH. Semen is (in biological terms) strongly alkaline, and the vagina is slightly acidic. Semen can neutralise the natural acidity and in women prone to flare ups can cause thrush for this reason.

If the lady is actually allergic to you, the easy test is to put some elsewhere on her and see if she has a reaction - the skin inside the wrist or forearm is good, as it's generally thin and hairless, so next time you have some, rub a dollop on her and leave it for half an hour.

Alternatively, if that's too clinical, get her to take it in her mouth and hold it there for a while before removing it by her favoured method. If she's sensitive, her tongue will tingle.
