Fox News is WAY TOO LIBERAL!

Wow, this is a new one on me. Fox must be a buncha COMMIES!! Can these right-wing extremists EVER be satisfied? Geez, it must be a tough life watching TV from the right-wing fringe.

Quote:
The problem is, Fox News has become just a little too fair and balanced. Where else can you catch such luminaries of the left as Katrina vanden Heuvel, David Corn, and Eric Alterman on a regular basis? You don’t even see these people on CNN and MSNBC, yet Fox has apparently decided to give the entire staff of The Nation a platform to spew their anti-American invective. The more moderate Juan Williams, Mara Liasson, and the annoyingly plastic Flavia Colgan are also part of Fox's liberal stable of commentators. Indeed, every show has to have a liberal guest or two on the panel, lest Fox be accused (horror of horrors) of being conservative. But is Fox so busy trying to present "both sides" that they're neglecting their conservative fan base? After all, liberals still dominate the MSM and already have more than enough outlets for their talking points. Rather than providing a true alternative, Fox seems to be following suit.

In its daily news coverage, Fox News essentially presents the same stories as everyone else. While news is news, the media literally shapes our view of reality by deciding which events to focus on and what slant to give the coverage. As such, Fox does little to differentiate itself from the crowd. Often, they go so far as to give voice to the canards making the rounds of the liberal media. For instance, in the wake of the tsunami disaster when the UN's "stingy" comment was being repeated ad nauseum by all the other stations, Fox followed suit, wasting an entire week on what was essentially a non-story. And they do it all the time. Instead of simply reacting to the left's agenda, Fox News should be putting forward its own.

.......

While the house of cards known as the MSM has come crashing down in recent years, most notably in the fall of Dan Rather and CBS, many Americans still look to the media to help them navigate the world. And increasingly, they're turning off their televisions and turning on their computers to get that guidance. Rejecting the narrative of the MSM, Americans are cutting through the obsfucation and getting to the truth via the Internet. Websites and blogs are the new founts of knowledge, while television news is becoming increasingly irrelevant. Unless it wants to follow suit, Fox News will wise up and stop worrying about being "fair and balanced." While they're still the best of the bunch, they can do better, much better.

I don't think "fair and balanced" and "Fox News" in the same sentence is grammatically correct...

It's an oxymoron. I hate fox more and more every day, and not just the news channel.

This made me laugh. How old is the person writing this article?

Getting the truth via the internet? That's rich. Last I heard, the medium was no means for the truth, whatever the truth is.

Maybe the writer meant opinions. Afterall isn't there a mountain of opinions in every medium that profess the truth? Same shit, different pile I say.

This article sums up the problem with the whole "media bias" argument from either side. If you think the media isn't biased you need only move your ideology further towards your respective fringe. If you think the media is biased you need only move your ideology further towards the center. Viola! The magic of relative motion.

Despite the welcome presence of Ann Coulter, Michele Malkin, and occasionally Rich Lowry, a plethora of conservative intellectuals languish in obscurity while blowhards such as Bill O'Reilly dominate the scene at Fox. O'Reilly seems to be pride himself on being a contrarian, but his "independence" rubbed conservative viewers the wrong way when he jumped on the "let's discredit the Swift Boat Veterans" bandwagon last year. The honeymoon has been over ever since. He also has a propensity for stories about scantily clad teenagers and the latest spring break sorority girl scandal, which are getting a bit tiresome for female viewers. Under the guise of disapproval, viewers are treated to endless footage of the objectionable behavior at issue.
So the artical states that media outlets lie all the time, and even fox is afraid to "tell it like it is" anymore.
Well I'm not a member of the media, and I seem to be on this here int-ra-net thingy, where the real truth is, so let me give it a go.

Bill's fall from grace has less to do with his actions, which like Rush's where excusable in private, than it has to do with that damn "liberal"media finally having a story to hit him with. When the sexual harrasment story broke he bacame a liability when it's truth became apparent. Denial only runs so far, and the conservative's knew that turning on Bill was needed to distance themselves from him.

Fox news isn't even news, its opinionated coverage. CNN vastly reins in giving news "fair and balanced". They are rarely opinonated and gives the news respect to itself instead of putting a label of liberal or conservative to it (except for crossfire, which is a great show).

yeah, I gotta admit, i started watching fox news in 2000 during the election coverage, then teh buildup to war, etc, but i actually enjoyed the programming. it was fairly opinionated and would piss me off repeatedly, but it was entertaining to watch...it wasn't until the actual start of the war that i started turning in CNN to see wha telse was being broadcast....and wow...what a difference...I never considered just how much of a difference there really was. Fox news constantly gives updates and opinions and commentary on stories, CNN gives info and lets you figure out what you want to make from the news, ie whether the war is correct, whether someone is a terrorist or just an outspoken person, whatever...To me, it's like the difference between middle school history and college level history. Middle school, you're pretty much told what to think of events, college, you *should* be figuring out what to think of events...

So true.

But, Fox news is a must IMO. It gives a counter to the liberal biased media out there. If FOx news isn't around then only one side gets told, and People like Dan Rather have no one wacthing what they say.

It works like a two party system. ( Dems and REps) One may be geting more attention at the time, but the other keeps them in check.

isn't the issue here that Fox was formerly the bastion of the right wing, and consequently now has many right wing viewers who are shocked when THEIR news source somehow has moderates on it.
