V unlikely in my opinion. Without US military support, the autocratic Saudi monarchy would be toppled tomorrow by a huge groundswell of popuar opinion. The danger is that the working class and peasants would probably be lead by a hostile and violent brand of Islamic extremist in this revolution. The Saudi govt has everything to lose by attacking America (losing one of their only int'l friends & nothing to gain - it has destabilised the situation and put them in graver danger than ever)

I never, ever, ever, ever thought I would say this....ever. I agree with SF. I'm not sure they would fall tomarrow if we withdrew our military support, the French sell weapons to everyone, but other then that....spot on. Repent, the end is near!

With the other option being support for the autocratic Saudi monarchy, the home of Wahhabism and the primary breeding grounds for terrorists, who attack the U.S. anyway - the choice is obvious. Stop paying for the dictatorship, the stability of Wahhabism and the education of terrorism.

I also agree with StrangeFamous.
I'm not sure if Saudi Arabia is the primary training ground for terrorists though, despite the prevalence of Wahhabism there. I thought that "honour" initially went to Taliban era Afghanistan and is now currently held by the Islamic schools in Pakistan and Indonesia. I suspect there's some crazy shit going on in the Caucasus too, but not systematic like that in Pakistan and Indonesia. Just my 2C's worth. Mr Mephisto |

You know, for once (!!!), I'm not arguing with you Opie.
:-) I'm just saying that I think terrorists are more likely to be trained in the lawless areas of Pakistan and Indonesia. I could be wrong, but that's just a hunch. Most of Islamic countries are not, as far as I know, Wahabbist, and Saudi Arabia is a strange bed-fellow for the "freedom loving" United States.
