Who would you like to see get clobbered? *International version*
I don't intend on stealing the thunder from AstroCloud's (who I respect greatly on this board) post. But I really think that some people in the US and definately some people outside the US want to see us clobbered. I also wanted to be able to see how many people would vote that way. So here it is.

Ofcourse I wouldn't like to see any country 'clobbered'. So I can't truthfully vote. I could say 'which do I want to see put in their place', but that would lead me to vote for a lot of countries, so that is no option either... Leaves me to vote for the US for messing in everybodies affairs in unequal fashion...

I really have a problem understanding how anyone who lives in this country would be stupid enough to want their own country clobbered. I have seen some assinine attempts to justify a lot if really ignorant statements made on these boards but that one takes the cake - Just where do you American hating Americans plan on living after you're clobbered? Have you come up with somewhere you think is better - If you think you have go live there a while - No! move there permanently and let's see if your opinion changes.

I voted France, and also agree with LD and Lebells statements. The U.S. not existing will not bring peace, it'll just make war nastier =).

UK for me. The "Brit Empire" has plundered more countries in the last couple of hundred years in the name of king and country, and we still have to listen to SOME of them going on how great they are and the empire.
One or two yanks for the same reason....America the greatest place on earth and every other country is second class. This comming from people who probably have never travelled further then the end of their driveway

I really don't know what to believe. Right now, it seems like the united states is pursuing some sort of world domination through a combination of military and economic might. We care little for international law or agreements unless they serve the interests of the wealthy few who sponsor our elected officials' elections. Americans, in general appear to be both shortsighted, and militantly arrogant. Only an american would denounce saddam as a ruthless dictator whose country needs to be liberated all the while ignoring our continuing support for despots across the globe. I don't think the united states is keeping the whole world in turmoil, as you put it. Just that we don't really give a damn about anybody else unless they have something we want. If that sounds like the kind of country you want to be your world's sole superpower, more power to you. You'd probably change your answer if you were in a marginalized country with no exploitable resources besides cheap labor. As for "clobbered", I doubt any coalition could occupy our country. I wasn't advocating that. I do think that the world would be a better place if we weren't the big kid on the block. Which will probably only going to occur when our inflated economy collapses. Quote:

For all the people looking for this country to get clobbered, I hope you will be donning uniforms. When you land in Jersey, if you are lucky enough to see a muzzle flash, that means I was just alittle off, you wont see the second one. Also dont get your hopes up it will not happen in your childrens childrens lifetime. I voted just to see the results, I voted the Saudi's. Just once would I like to see the US attack a country for oil and really take said oil.

I still voted Zimbabwe, but we have to remember that this is a multinational forum and also that an important part of American freedom is to be able to speak out against our government and its actions. The reason I didn't use the word "conquer" and substituted it with "clobber" is because I didn't want to imply a total destruction of any of the nations, rather I was intending it to mean a series military defeat. Though I highly doubt any reasoning person wants American (or any other nationalities) soldiers to die in combat, I do think that important lessons are taught in the defeat of nations militaries. Democracies learned something from Vietnam, the world learned something from WWII, dictators learned something from Gulf War II, and so on. I think the sentiment for those wanting the US to have a serious military defeat is that many believe that it is the only way in which American will learn to take a less unilateral and militaristic role in the world. I think that is a critical step in the evolution of American culture. I only hope it doesn't take the death of thousands of good boys and girls for us to learn it.

I vote Isreal. But not clobbered as in death and destruction, but rather by having the US to stand up for itself and stop licking the Isreali's asses every fucking step of the way. Christ, there were supposed to be scud missiles pointed at Isreal according to Mossad, many with biological aresals attached. And they are where?
Now Mossad is fingering Syria,Iran and Lebanon as producing WMD. Will the US continue to be Isreals puppet? Wouldn't doubt it. I wonder if Las Vegas has a line on how high the US will jump when the Isreali's tell them to.

Now get off your high horse. "Love it or leave it" is the motto of a man who doesn't believe his country can improve, and that man is a fool, no matter where he lives.

Since its international; my vote is for the word itself; intelligent life of a extraterrestrial nature provide a foundation to give the present occupants a new appreciation for what they're throwing away.
A worldwide survey was conducted by the UN. The only question asked was: "Would you please give your honest opinion about solutions to the food shortage in the rest of the world?" The survey was a huge failure... In Africa they didn't know what "food" meant. In Eastern Europe they didn't know what "honest" meant. In Western Europe they didn't know what "shortage" meant. In China they didn't know what "opinion" meant. In the Middle East they didn't know what "solution" meant. In South America they didn't know what "please" meant. And in the US they didn't know what "the rest of the world" meant. Please excuse I was feeling pretty cynical before I even saw this thread tonight.

I wasn't thinking of this poll in a realistic sense at first, because if I were then I wouldn't have voted for any of them. I guess someone should look at this poll as each country being a kid in a playground, which one would you want to get beat up? I would go with either the big bully, USA, or the stuck-up rich kid who sounds like he's gay, UK. Then there is the pretty boy who gets all the girls, France. Don't take this poll too seriously. I'm sure thats how most people thought when they first voted.

Wow, what a lively discussion!
I got so many leads for answering here... Sorry for the long post. Quote:

I personally like the country and the americans in general as well. It's just that some US-leaders create the whole US-image that the rest of the world has by messing in a lot of foreign affairs in not always constructive ways. And at least some americans have the insight and the guts to see that. I'm no American, but I don't see any american voting US in this poll as strictly un-american or (heaven forbid) unpatriotic. Quote:
I'm no soldier, have no easy access to guns, but as soon as some US soldier appears here on 'non-friendly' terms (contrary to what they have been here for, for a very long time) I will do everything in my power to kick his ass back out! It might not be much, I probably would get killed or the soldiers capture me while laughing at my feeble attempts. I do not hide my personal military inferiority, but I will stand for the sovereignety(sp?) of my country. I will not invade any other country (regardless of me voting 'US' here) but I do frown upon any country threatening mine, thus ensuring my vote. (note we're talking about a so-called european US-ally here not some 'axis-of-evil' state.) Quote:

Interesting.
It seems that the major argument from those voting the United States is to knock us off our high horse as the "last superpower". Well then, my next question is, who will you have replace us? Because as sure as the sun rises tomorrow there WILL be a replacement and the country most likely to do it is Communist China, with a projected date of 20 or so years to match the US navy. So y'all better be careful what you wish for: you may get it. (Of course, I don't believe the majority of you have any clue what role the US has in STABILIZING international politics, but realization usually comes with age and experience.)

I dont think its the super power thing that is an issue as such, but the attitude that comes with it. Every country - nation is entitled to their own oppinion, and IMO its the American "government" and the attitude they hold towards that. Agree with us on our policies or we will crush you. That is no way for a super power to go. As in all things no one likes to be criticised , but it is always a good thing to reflect on our actions to see how we can improve ourselves, which the government is failing to do on their policies. They are not learning from theri mistakes.

I voted for Iran. I'm an American bully. I don't really want to see the US get clobbered. I live here. I love it here. I don't like our leaders sometimes or the things that they do, but the nice thing about our country is that we get to vote every four years. Even if I absolutely hated my president, I'd rather see him voted out, than see him get clobbered. Things change. One president's responsibilites of being a superpower will be different from another. I'd much rather have US the one on top than any other country. China? Hell no. France? No, and I'm pretty French. Canada? Uh uh. The UK, no way. Zimbabwe? Not a chance. I'll take the US as the superpower not just because I'm American, but because its never going to have a dictator. Change will always come about.

I don't want anybody to get clobbered. Doesn't anybody believe in solving problems through cooperation, diplomacy, and good old-fashioned hegemonic coercion any more? Why do we have to talk about "clobbering"? Haven't we learned ANYTHING by looking at the mistakes of the past? Russia in Afghanistan - that was a big success. The Middle East, boy, violence has sure been the answer there. The 9/11 attacks, boy that sure showed those dumb Americans who's the boss. Yup, violence will fix everything.
Can we move on to a more useful topic?
