I'm no fan of GWB but I think you could make just such a laundry list of every president's failures and fuckups - personal and presidential.

I don't know, I've seen lists like this before for every president.
This one is quite substantial and large.

He must be proud.

Whether contextually accurate or not
I would prefer a new administration.

That list is full of items like this. There is no facts behind this. How do you prove a presidency secretive? Its total opinion and no fact. Then how would you show its the most secretive in our history. You cant. This list throws around things being the worst in our history is totally false. Most of the crap isn't a record. He throws that term around as if he has done any research to back it up. How many years did FDR do without people knowing he couldn't walk on his own? Something like 10 years (cant remembr off the top of my head). Thats less secretive than not answering a few questions that dont deserve an answer somehow i guess....

Anyway, you could easily make a list that long or longer of other presidents and you could make it sound impressive by tackin on "...most in history..." or "Its a record...really. dont look it up" on the end of that. Then if you stick in a bunch of opinions and state them as records it would grow even longer. Some of that stuff is true, yes. But its mostly a bunch of BS "records". Also one of those says he has acheived the record unempolyment. Note : i dont ahve actualy numbers for unempolyment in front of me now. BUT, Do we really have more people unemployed than we did during the depression? Were there really more women working then than there are now? Do we really have hords of people begging in the streets because they cant get a job and feed there family? People flocking across teh country to find work? I guess we really are in a bad situation. Its a miracle i can afford this computer and the internet with how bad unemployment and the economy is...

I guess my point is you can make a list of nyone. And that list inparticular is heavily biased, opinionated, and even innacurate and false.

It is true that you can make a list like this for any President, but the one comment above inre: making the presidency most secretive and unaccountable, Kenndy actually kept far more secrets than Bush has. However, he was, at times, remarkably accountable. Also, look back through history books for pictures of FDR in a wheelchair. Chances are, you will find VERY few of them. He did not like to be photographed or seen in public in his wheelchair, for fear that it would show him as being weak. If he were around today and had his entire life documented on TV, he would never have been President just on image alone.

Also, as far as Bush being the worst "in history" for some of these, bear in mind that everything has been "super-sized," if you will, as time goes on. It would be impossible for all but a few Presidents to spend in the billions or trillions. Also, some of the programs that have finally had the final nail in their coffins have been on a steadily declining path. If they had all been in tip-top shape from the beginning, they might have lasted another 10 years or so.

On, and for the record, I do NOT support Bush, but I try to look at everything from every angle before pointing the finger.

In late August, the AFL-CIO issued a press release titled "U.S. Workers Struggle in Worst Job Slump Since Great Depression." They said this with a straight face even though, at that time, the unemployment rate was 6.2%. In the Depression it was above 20% and in the early 1980s, at the height of union membership, unemployment was 10.8%. --Brian S. Wesbury

This just shows one of the lies in the above list. Remember proper ettiquette folks, if it bashes Bush, it doesnt have to be true.

Well, you must remember that it was the worst job slump since the depression when considering how many people were unemployed, rather than the percentage.

Really, a lot of these statements seem like an outline for a new first-person Michael Moore flick.

Really I thought that the unemployment Rate was based on percentages. I am sure that Germany's 18 % unemployment rate is better cause their population is lower?

Doesn't it take a little more than an executive order to amend the Constitution? Maybe I'm not reading it correctly but that sounds like quite the overstatement.

I thought it took a 2/3's vote by congress, the President can veto laws/bills, but I don't think he can nullify or amend them (God I hope I am right).

Quote:
"The Amendment Process"

There are essentially two ways spelled out in the Constitution for how it can be amended. One has never been used.

The first method is for a bill to pass both halves of the legislature, by a two-thirds majority in each. Once the bill has passed both houses, it goes on to the states. This is the route taken by all current amendments. Because of some long outstanding amendments, such as the 27th, Congress will normally put a time limit (typically seven years) for the bill to be approved as an amendment (for example, see the 21st and 22nd).

The second method prescribed is for a Constitutional Convention to be called by two-thirds of the legislatures of the States, and for that Convention to propose one or more amendments. These amendments are then sent to the states to be approved by three-fourths of the legislatures or conventions. This route has never been taken, and there is discussion in political science circles about just how such a convention would be convened, and what kind of changes it would bring about.

Regardless of which of the two proposal routes is taken, the amendment must be approved by three-fourths of states. The amendment as passed may specify whether the bill must be passed by the state legislatures or by a state convention. See the Ratification Convention Page for a discussion of the make up of a convention. Amendments are sent to the legislatures of the states by default. Only one amendment, the 21st, specified a convention.
So if you were a reasonable human being you would bitch at the congress, and not Bush for amending the constitution.

Reconmike, i like it how you went through the list and responded to some of them, while skipping over many.

does that mean that you are not going to counter those statements, meaning they could actually be true?

and "get[ting] a job" is not going to solve all the problems.
