I finally took the emode.com test and scored a 138. I guess I'm just a pessimist but I still think the numbers are really high. If my IQ came back, say around 90, I'd be much less likely to want to purchase my test results and analysis then if it came back really high so I still see the results as a sales tool than an accurate number.
-2.38, +1.13 for the politicalcompass site was surprising. I've always seen myself as far right conservative without the religion and come to find out, I'm more left than right. Interesting all around... |
Economic Left/Right: -4.12
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -3.90 IQ: 140 |
haha you guys are all funny you realize that even 120 is far above average. You don't have to embelish THAT much.
-2.62, -2.26 IQ 127 edit: I did not use blasphemous emode to get my iq, it was taken when I was being Diagnosed with A.D.D. |
-6.38 -3.54 IQ 133
|
(-.38, -1.59) 138 IQ (real test)
I disagree with this assessment of my political leanings. I'd say I'm actually a bit further to the right than I am to the left. This score puts me in the neighborhood of Jacques Chirac and there's very little chance of that. |
The last time i did an IQ test, which was around several months ago, i got ~160.
Economic Left/Right: -0.88 Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.97 |
Economic Left/Right: 1.62

IQ- 138 on emode, 151 when tested back in grade school (so it should of dropped, 138 is prob right)
Position- -1, -1.44 |
As far as the I.Q. test goes, I tried it out a dozen times, putting in different answers for those questions that were open-ended but kept coming back with similar scores. I also changed my demographic info (age, sex, etc) with no variance. Most of the questions were like the type I faced in Junior High IQ and aptitude tests, not nearly as challenging as the type of tests I saw in Psych 101 at University. Conclusion: this IQ test is highly skewed to lure the user into paying the fees, not a scientific tool at all. No surprise, so if you scored really, really high, go smoke a spliff or go back to eating your nachos while you watch the Simpson's. It ain't real folks.
For the survey, however: IQ=137, Pol= -3.75,-0.87 |
Your political compass
Economic Left/Right: -5.38 Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.31 I was near Ghandi, Nelson Mandela, and The Dalai Lama. Your IQ score is 135 Weak dude. |
I don't mean to burst your bubble Loki, but an IQ of 160 ranks you as a "Genius". Would Albert Einstein be putting in some spare time here at TFP if he was still alive and not working on something to improve the lot of mankind in general?
Now that would be truly interesting to see what he would post for comments! Maybe something like E=mc2 where E=erection, m=the size of her mammaries and c= the size of my cock before it became excited by the hooters on that babe. |
Economic Left/ Right: -4.72
libertarian/ Authoritarian: -9.48 Your IQ score is 131. And english is not my native language, if you're taking this parameter into account. |
Economic Left/Right: 1.88
Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.79 IQ from years ago 145 I agree that is a skewed IQ test. Bogus at best. |
-7.00, -8.26
IQ 156 (Mensa test a few years ago, also got exactly the same score on stanford-binet (Edit: I think) many years ago) |
Cool idea, but pointless unless people are honnest. I rather doubt you will see many people putting an IQ of less then 120 reguardless of score.
I'm friends with the guy who owns the emode website, I'll have to ask him where he got his test from next time I see him. My wife took it a few weeks ago and said it reminded her of the Mensa test. Your political compass Economic Left/Right: 3.88 Libertarian/Authoritarian: 0.97 As a side note I score in the 98.8% of the population on IQ, though I'm not going to take the time for the emode test right now. |
Very interesting survey.
Economic Left/Right: -4.62 Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.62 IQ: Somewhere between 130 and 140, I'd rather go to sleep than take an IQ test. |
Economic Left/Right: 5.38
Libertarian/Authoritarian: 1.03 IQ: 156 Your can't form any sensible statistic based on 100 results. Add to that the fact that TFP does not represent the general public, and this experiment is worthless. Also, it looks like almost everybody here is a dirty commie ;) |
Quote:
And yes they are filthy dirty commies, but I have a feeling most are quite young and haven't tried to get ahead on their own yet :D Anyone who ever tried to start a small business or the like, very quickly changes their tune. Of course once you REALLY make it and have the millions in the bank you can go back to liberal again since it makes you feel better and no matter how much they tax you, your lifestyle doesn't change  |
Four Fingers, you are correct about the statistical and demographic flaws of conducting such a study based on results of a web-forum where mainly males of industrialized countries (have to have both a computer and unfettered internet access) looking at boobies congregate. There is no scientific validity to it at all but it's my guess that the person who started the string hypothesizes that higher levels of intelligence are linked to more "liberal" social values. Am I right?
One thing is certain, there are a lot of liberal and socialist empathics who seem to contribute to this discussion. I would expect this of people who smoke pot and like to look at nude ladies (does Rush Limbaugh frequent this forum? Hmm, perhaps he does now that we know the truth about him). |
An interesting read:
Economic Left/Right: -0.12 Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.56 My IQ is an actual, tested 140. I agree with a previous poster, the political compass test had questions that seemed to try to evoke an emotional response. |
Economic Left/Right: -3.00
Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.49 Emode: 187 |
You will all be most amused, I'm sure, when I tell you that I haven't been to the titty board here quite yet. Of course, I haven't had much time to do so, but this is all beside the point. I agree that the scientific validity of this very informal survey is limited, but I dont' suspect that the thread starter wanted to get written up in SciAm or some psychiatry journal. It would still be interesting to get a thumbnail sketch of how the participants on this board shake out. In that vein, and without further ado:
(-7.75, -4.87) IQ = 152 as derived from GRE results, 142 as derived from testing as a child to find out why I didn't pay attention in class. :D |
that would be "don't." *smack!*
|
By the way, MuadDib, we must be related! I hope you're not sitting with your back to a door...
|
I agree with whoever it was that said this isn't a terribly representative sample, but here goes...
Political compass: Economic left/right: -6.5 Libertarian/authoritarian: -7.13 woot! I'm in good company with Gandhi and the Dalai Lama! IQ: Emode: 138 (seems about right - Stanford Binet at age 13 was 142, SAT and GRE scores extrapolate to between 141 and 152 - close enough for government work, considering that mostly what's being measured is the ability to take standardized tests.) |
I finally had a moment or two to take these tests...
Economic Left/Right: 5.62 Libertarian/Authoritarian: 4.46 IQ as 134, never took one before, so can't compare. Those questions could really trip you up if weren't paying attention. |
I don't know how to do correlational analyses, and I think they are generally suspect anyhow, but here are some simple data about the responses so far:
Mean IQ (taking out anything above 160): 139 Either people are fudging their scores high, or the test is completely invalid, or respondents are self-selecting for high IQs, or we represent a highly skewed sample, or all of the above. Mean political compass response: Economic Left/Right: -2.71 Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.25 And just for shits and giggles, here's a scatter plot of our positions on the political compass: http://invis.free.anonymizer.com/htt...calscatter.gif We are a bunch of dirty commies! ;) (Actually, I object to labeling that side of the axis "communist" - it's a politically loaded term and I'm sure most of us don't align with the actual values of communism per se.) Anybody with some stats background care to take a stab at some more sophisticated analyses? |
I did this on v3 - I'll do it again just to add some more weight to the right side of things...

Don't have any idea how any of this comes together. |
Economic Left/Right: -5.12
Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.74 emode IQ: 135 my IQ score in high school was 135. my guidance counselor left me in the office with my folder, so yes, i peaked! and i also took another online IQ test a year or 2 ago, which i also got a 135 on. so... i'm no genius, but i am consistant & not retarded despite what my mom always told me. hahah ;) this is a curious idea here tho & interesting to see that -most- tfpers are falling onto the left side of the graph. |
Economic Left/Right: -5.12
Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.87 IQ 131 (online test) Maybe I should have figured out that scrambled-word one instead of just guessing. Hmm. Maybe this should be polled to ensure people with lower scores will also put them forward. Probably hard to do with so few poll options, though. |

Economic Left/Right: 5.38 Libertarian/Authoritarian: 3.44 no interest in the IQ test, sorry. |

I know many, many small business owners who continue to hold very liberal ideas about society caring for everyone, not just for those lucky enough to have enough money to take care of everything themselves (or those children lucky enough to have parents with enough money). I also know many older people who have "tried to get ahead on their own" and done quite well at it, thanks, and have maintained leftist economic ideals. Sweeping generalization and "pat pat" condescension do very little to further the cause of mutual political understanding. But perhaps you are more interested in feeling superior than in people understanding each other's sincerely held political views? |

And I stand by my statements, I dont' think many of you have tried to run your own bussiness and had to pay quarterly taxes and the like. "Any man who is under 30, and is not a liberal, has not heart; and any man who is over 30, and is not a conservative, has no brains." (Sir Winston Churchill) |

Thanks, UsTwo. I was looking for that Churchill quote- I still find it apropos as I close in on 40. I maintain that the political measurement is biased and what's with all these sub-genius IQ scores being reported? If these scores were all true everyone here would be a doctor, lawyer or engineer and would be too busy with our jobs to contribute to this silly little time waster (the tests, not the TFP or the people involved with it- don't flame me). Hey, I could be wrong, after all, I only scored 138 on the e-test. ;)

Economic Left/Right: -12.32

But of my more conservative friends I am the biggest time waster in the group. My father told me something that I think is a truism several years ago, it went something like this. "Some people read books all the time, and like you to know how smart they are, but they never DO anything with their lives." I find that with a lot of arm chair liberals. They want you to know how smart they are, how much they have read, quote other peoples thoughts, but they themselves have really done nothing important. |
I believe some folks have made their opinions known without the need to keep repeating them here.
Officially, continuing that would have to be considered hijacking this thread - which is not about the merits of one side or another. |

Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.92 IQ: 133 (although that's likely to decline after I take a couple more emode tests...) |
