Experiment. Please participate, it's fun.

I'm interested to see if there is any corelation between IQ and political beliefs. Whilst I realise that statistics collected from a self-selecting sample will be skewed, and that questionnaire-type tests are considered a little dubious, this was the best way I could think of to collect the data.

Take this test http://www.politicalcompass.org/ and give your results as cartesian coordinates...

...then give your IQ: If you don't already know it, you can take a test here: http://www.emode.com/tests/uiq/

My results are:

(-6, -4) and 129

When I've got enough results, I'll plot some graphs and try to work out how to post them.

Thanks for participating

IQ Test using e-mode....

jesus christ, it's 6 in the AM, i've been drinking and smoking up the ENTIRE NIGHT, i think i should have done a few more hits when I was in high school...maybe would have gotten a better gpa.

on second thought, these tests (iq especially) are just a bunch of bs where they try and flatter you into buying some sort of "intelligence profile", feels good anyways though.

I do the same thing sometimes; but when I remember I do a search before creating a thread to see if its been done so the same thing doesnt keep going over and over. This one has been done a few times. Here's the last one

http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...itical+compass

You can always go to it after a search and post something and it will push it back up.

Just a suggestion. :D :D

Thanks Sun Tzu, but the important difference here is that I want to know how people's IQ relates to their political views

I think you'd find a better correlation with income than IQ, though.

We have an awful lot of "geniuses" here, or just people who take oddball tests. 140 is considered genius (I scored a mere 136 on the emode test). 150+ is just unheard of. If you could tell us which tests yielded that result, that would be great. If you scored that high on the emode test, that's wonderful. I'd like to see your answers. :)

Although we won't believe everything we read online, http://www.wilderdom.com/personality...tandingIQ.html has some information about iq distribution. They fall in a bell curve by design, since 100 is the median iq score.

http://www.us.mensa.org/news_media/newsroom/052903.php has a short faq on them.

(Not to open the whole IQ debate or anything, but I didn't think IQ tests could measure to 160 accurately.)

So me:

IQ: 136
Economic Left/Right: -0.88
Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.95

One click left, 3 or 4 libertarian. (-1,-4) Sounds about right to me.

Can we get a summary of the "findings" when there have been enough replies? If you really wanted to find out what people with high IQs think, you should go to a Mensa meeting (although we seem to have one going right here atm).

I'm surprised to see such a centrist-liberal leaning. I would have thought that we'd have more of a spread across the spectrum.

So what does this mean?

Dibbler 09-16-2003 05:29 AM

So, everyone in this place rates as "very superior" to "genius" in the IQ department. 189!?! You should be appointed supreme ruler with "them thar kinds of smarts..."

Ok, my results are -2.38, +1.13 and the IQ is...... oh lets say.... 211. There, now I'm smarter than all of you.

Marie 09-16-2003 05:50 AM

I scored 129 on the online IQ test. Not bad in a foreign language, I suppose.
The other test didn't make much sense for me, living in an other country, but I vote left if that's enough...

Oh, and I'm a 'precision processor'. Sounds cool! but does anybody know what this means???

Actually most of the people that post on this board are very smart. Why don't you take the test, be honest, and post your score. If you don't want to do that then do not participate.

I have always thought I was very smart. I do well at everything I do. After coming to this board and talking with these guys about politics, philosophy, religion, scientific theory, etc, I have found that most of the people here are smarter than I am. I like that because I learn things and see different points of view on topics. Yeah some of these scores might be raised so people can look smart but I think most of them are honest and true.

I've taken them before online. I usually get somewhere between 127 and 134 which ranks me in the top 97% of the population. I just don't think I'm that smart and therefore think that the IQ tests, for the most part, give a false number to make the "testee" feel good about themselves.

johnnymysto 09-16-2003 06:58 AM

IQ=131 (or 473, if you go by some of the scores posted above)

I think you're being a little unfair on yourself there. Most people are in the top 97%, you're probably in the top 3% :D. Although the emode test cannot have a very high accuracy (about twenty questions measuring on a scale of about two hundred points gives an accuracy that can't be much better than nearest ten points) I tried going through answering every question wrongly and got 72 points, almost the inverse of my 129 points that I got trying to answer everything correctly.

Bear in mind that anyone with a sub 50 IQ probably can't read or write, so anyone with a sub 100 IQ is likely to struggle enough with the whole deal that they'd give it up as a bad game. Also, because of people's prejudices anyone with a low IQ is unlikely to want to post it, but probably wouldn't lie about it. Not that I need to explain any of this to anybody on this thread;)

Amaras 09-16-2003 12:43 PM

-2.50, -5.79, IQ of 148, tested many times over the years......

dy156 09-16-2003 01:35 PM

score: 4.21 right, -1.74 down; IQ - was told a range in upper 130's to low 140's many years ago.

Comments: I'm in the lower right quadrant where no noted national leader is, but the author "I would like to read" is Ayn Rand. I could have told you this prior to taking the test. Arnold Schwarzenegger also would fall into this category, I bet, and he is the only national political figure to my knowledge that would do so. I also happen to think that those in this quadrant have the most intellectually honest philosophy. (Simply put: I don't want the government taking my stuff, because I can do very well for myself, thank you, and I expect you to take care of yourself too. I don't care what you want to do, so long as I don't get in trouble for doing what I want to do either. Just leave everyone alone unless they try to hurt someone else.)

This political spectrum test does not take into account very well that I want the government to protect me from other governments or people who would try to do harm to me or my fellow citizens, perhaps foriegn policy viewpoints would require a third dimension to truly measure one's political philosophy.

The liberal Democrats listed with a spot near mine on a chart elswhere on the site is I think a reference to that party in Great Britain, not in America, because I don't think liberal American Democrats are economically conservative, and the site uses British spellings elswhere.

I too question the many high IQs listed above. I learned on another thread that I could be in Mensa, based on previous standardized tests, and it seems that I would be on the low end of the scale in this forum. Maybe the online tests are not as accurate as tests given by a single administrator to one test taker at a time. Maybe only those with high IQs are willing to post them. Then again, IQ is short for Intelligence Quotient, and the quotient is a ratio of age to mental ability. Maybe my mental ability hasn't kept up with my age!

Conclamo Ludus 09-16-2003 01:59 PM

So which one is the Stupid Party and which one is the Smarty Party? I can't do the math, so y'all know where I stand. :D

dy156 09-17-2003 06:01 AM

Well, for shits and giggles, I took the online test, and got a 135, which falls right in the range of what I was told long ago, therefore maybe the online test is fairly accurate, and I'm just not as smart as all the other people here!
