Al Gore's Son Arrested On Drug Suspicion

Al Gore's Son Arrested On Drug Suspicion

I don't know if he's guilty or not...but if he is, get the Bush twins to bring the alcohol and you could have one bad ass 4th of July party!

"Al Gore III, 24, was driving a blue Toyota Prius about 100 mph on the San Diego Freeway..."

I'm surprised a Prius even goes that fast. I wonder if GoreII (or Sr.?) will issue a statement on how proud he is of his son driving a hybrid car even if he replaces auto pollution with dope smoke?

The Prius can actually go over 100 mph. And it even get's okay gas mileage at that speed.

BTW, mj bust? Even if this were the son of my worst enemy, I'd be like, "Who cares?" It's bud, and it's not like he was drunk or something.

The only thing that comes to mind for me is back in the 80s when growing up is Tipper Gore going after the damned record industry getting those stupid parental labels on records. Where is your Parental Label crap now????

roachboy is having some issues with summoning empathy for the privileged, go figure. He'd probably be in mourning if it was the son of an anonymous revolutionary insurgent field captain somewhere.

I didn't grow up rich but I can empathize with someone having issues of addiction. Seems to me a universal problem, regardless of socio-economic status. Well nevermind me, let the mocking continue!

Addiction? Neither marijuana nor driving fast are chemically addictive, and we have no evidence to really suggest that he is psychologically addicted to either of those things. Sounds like a fallacy to elicit sympathy. Sorry, PC.

RB is right in that this is a non-story. I happen to think it's funny that the son of Al Gore speeds, but he does it in a way that's better for the environment. He's a chip off the old block.

I still hope Al will sign on to the green party and run for 2008. I'd vote for him.

You must have missed the part about the cops finding Xanax, Valium, Vicodin and Adderall in the car...all highly addictive, controlled substances that he didn't have prescriptions for, which means he got them illegally.

I guess that makes me addicted to cuban cigars. I get them illegally, and they have chemicals that are addictive. I only smoke about one a year, but because I get them illegally and they can be addictive, I must be addicted.

Will, no one has all that crap - the Xanax, Vicodin, etc - obtained illegally, without having some dependency issues.

My thoughts exactly. A (illegal) plus B (contains addictive chemicals) does not necessarily equal C (addicted). They can equal C, but I'd need more information to verify that. It's just speculation at this point, and in your use it was speculation intended to make RB seem insensitive. It's doesn't really work, though, which makes it a fallacy.

Not all recreational drug use is connected to addiction, even when those drugs are Xanax, Vicoden, Valium, and Adderall.

I think I used the term "dependency" as opposed to "addiction". People who need a little something to get them through the day - like Xanax - may not be, in the strictest sense, addicted always, but they have problems.

The world is coming to an end... I completely agree with Roach AND Will.

1. Has comedic value on par with:
A) Britney's shaven head/umbrella rampage
B) The interview where Paris claims she's never been drunk or done drugs.
C) The Bush daughter tying to drink underage in the Texas capital where her father spent two sessions as state governor and now President.

2. Regardless of 1, does not constitute news.

The whole story has huge comedic value wriiten all over it,

Maybe he was racing a hybrid civic with a big wing and stickers,

On a side note though Will why must you defend him, will you say he has a problem with drugs when he checks into a rehab center, cause you know he is going to daddy will insure of that.

And my only other side comment in this whole joke of a news story is, if it was any prominent repubs kid would the reactions here be the same?

I would be willing to wager not.

As I understand it, there was an incident before. It's not defending him. Breaking the law is breaking the law. I don't see conclusive evidence that we're looking at addiction.

Irish bookie pays out as cops bust 'wrong' Gore

Bookmaker forced to pay more than $13,600 after arrest of Al Gore's son

About 50 people had bet Al Gore would be arrested

Gore's son, also named Al, was arrested for drug possession last week
DUBLIN, Ireland (Reuters) -- An Irish bookmaker who offered 14-to-1 odds that Al Gore would be the next high-profile American to be arrested paid out on Friday after police detained the former vice president's son, also named Al.

Having not specified which Al bettors could back, Paddy Power said some of the 50 or so people who placed money on the rank outsider being arrested had been quick to claim their winnings.

"We got a good stoning thanks to the vice president's son," the company said in a statement.

The "bizarre coincidence" would cost it more than $13,600.

Al Gore III, 24, was stopped for speeding on Wednesday and arrested for drug possession after a sheriff's deputy smelled marijuana and searched his car.

Paddy Power, which is well known in Ireland for wacky publicity stunts and for offering bizarre and sometimes controversial bets, offered odds on July 3 that had made Paris Hilton the 2-to-1 favorite to be arrested.

It had ranked President Bush and Bill Gates among the outsiders on odds of 33-to-1 and 50-to-1 respectively.
