The definition of Ironic

Whoever it is that secretly held this legislation up....has itty bitty balls, and should have them removed anyway, as a precaution.

"It is both unfortunate and ironic that this bipartisan bill, which promotes sunshine and openness in our government, is being hindered by a secret and anonymous hold. This is a good government bill that Democrats and Republicans alike, can and should work together to enact. I hope that the Senator placing the secret hold on this bill will come forward, so that we can resolve any legitimate concerns, and the full Senate can promptly act on this legislation."

This is ridiculous, and the height of irony. The FOIA is a Good Thing™ and positive changes to it should not be held up, especially by an anonymous Senator.

and....the answer is.....the audio daily double...uh, no:

WASHINGTON — Advocates of a bill promoting openness in government are fuming that a Republican senator is blocking a vote on the measure.

Dozens of journalism and advocacy groups supporting the Open Government Act say it would speed up the government's response to public requests for information under the federal Freedom of Information law.

But Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., says the Justice Department has "uncharacteristically strong" objections to the bill. In a statement Thursday, he said he will block a vote until both sides can work out the differences.

Supporters of the bill are irate.

"This is a good government bill that Democrats and Republicans alike can and should work together to enact. It should be passed without further delay," said Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., who sponsored the bill with Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas.

Frustrated, Leahy now is pressing senators to clear the bill for a vote.

I assume this is due to the "wonder" of committees.

Jon Kyl...the "elitist" that dksuddeth mistakingly mislabeled Ted Kennedy as...
IMO, Kyl is an enemy of the best interests of at least 90 percent of Americans

If the description below, about the way the circumstances of seeing one of the poorest areas in the country drowning under the effects of a devastating hurricane, are accurate, influenced Kyl to react, is he even human?

Senator Jon Kyl, Arizona.
DAVID BURNETT / CONTACT FOR TIME

Many junior senators waste away in the shadow cast by a giant senior colleague. But in just two terms, Arizona's No. 2, Jon Kyl, 63, has blossomed in the shade of John McCain. As head of the Republican policy committee, the ultraconservative Kyl is in charge of shaping the Republican agenda in the Senate on everything from abortion and judicial appointments to national security and tax cuts. He has succeeded by mastering a tactic that is crucial in a body in which any one member can bring the place to a halt as a ploy or out of pique: subterfuge.

Last November, for example, Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina proposed a controversial amendment barring U.S. courts from hearing cases brought by prisoners in the war on terrorism. It turned out that Kyl was behind it, having worked on the language for months and having assigned his staff to help write the final bill. But "it was a situation where it was best handled by Lindsey," Kyl says delicately, pointing out that Graham had the credibility of a military lawyer and a centrist. When urgent legislation to respond to Hurricane Katrina bumped Kyl's long-sought goal of a vote on abolishing the estate tax last fall, Kyl quietly worked to get it back on the Senate agenda by recruiting Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions in an unsuccessful attempt to find victims of the disaster who would be paying the tax. And although he denies it, G.O.P. aides say that when Harriet Miers was nominated to the Supreme Court last October, Kyl and his staff led a behind-the-scenes effort to undermine the nomination...
