Canada: Election Test
The Globe and Mail has gone through all the party platforms and created this quiz that will show you where you stand in comparison to the party platforms.
TAKE THE TEST I was surprised. I choose a lot of Green issues. One from the Liberals, one from the NDP and one from the Conservatives (I happen to agree with their increase in military spending). How do you stack up?

There isn't even a person running as a green candidate in my riding (I think). Now what do I do?

Conservative 0 NDP 1 Bloc 0 Green 3 Pretty much how I expected. Don't want to vote Liberal- it's time they left. I would rather add my (Insignificant) weight to NDP than green, but it's still up in the air even now.

Willravel: I'd like to see more Americans take this test. I think they would need to add "none of the above" to some of the pages.

3 conservative, 2 NDP and 2 Green. I went with the green party on law and education. I could never vote for the NDP because they still think that they could not be a rival party. When Jack Layton was debating he kept explaining their policies and used "the NDP will do that for you." And I think that this election, the green party will come into the picture. I feel that without an "face" to lead them, everyone will be lost within the other parties.

I'm surprised the Greens haven't managed to wrangle a name to lead their party. The people are intelligent, earnest and have great policies, but they keep getting shut out of national debates and the like. If they had someone with more notoriety (not say I want one of these people, but say a prominent provincial politician to lead them - a Bob Rae, a Mike Harris, former premier, big city mayor type) they could be ignored and would win a few seats.

The funny thing is, the NDP missed a big opportunity a few years back, before Layton became the leader, to become more like what the green party is today. They floundered through the 90s with some weak leadership and were in need of "something". Given the new NDP (no deficits, tax cuts, etc.) they are much more like the Green's. Reading their policies, they have many similarities... if they were to unite or form a coalition of some sort, they might avoid splitting their votes.
