Historic sawmill

I took these two pictures while I was on vacation a couple weeks ago, driving the Blue Ridge Parkway. This is a sawmill in the Mabry Mill area of the parkway.

Breathtaking! Reflection on the pond adds to the charm.

I like the first picture. That modern road kind of detracts from the second, though.

funny, I thought the second was better - fun study in contrasts.

Very fine shots. Makes me want to travel. Especially like the reflection off the pond in the first shot.

Dogzilla,

Nice photos. I like the first for a rather personal reason.

My great aunt, a rather accomplished artist, traveled to that mill and did an oil painting of almost that exact same view. In her painting, the building was a weathered red color. Maybe she took "artistic license" with the color. This was many years ago. Perhaps you know, was the building painted red long ago?

As memory serves she did the painting as a commission but somehow the family ended up with it.

With your permission, I would like to save that photo and use as a desktop and show it to some family members. Alas, my great aunt has long since passed.

Keep up the good work.

Sorry for not getting back to you. I just saw this message. You are welcome to save a copy of either picture and show it to whoever you like.

I don't know anything about the history of the sawmill. I was just driving along the Blue Ridge Parkway during vacation and saw the sawmill.

The first photo is so picturesque, a lovely shot of the mill's reflection.

The first picture is very nice! The view there is amazing, but crowded in autumn. My dad has a picture of that mill hanging on his wall that he probably took in the 70s in fall.
