Maybe she took "artistic license" with the color. This was many years ago. Perhaps you know, was the building painted red long ago?
As memory serves she did the painting as a commission but somehow the family ended up with it.
With your permission, I would like to save that photo and use as a desktop and show it to some family members. Alas, my great aunt has long since passed.

I don't know anything about the history of the sawmill. I was just driving along the Blue Ridge Parkway during vacation and saw the sawmill.
