i think we will get to a point where we believe too much in technology to fix our problems. for every good technological advance there will be 2 more bad. We are digging ourselves down. We will end up making more technology to fix that bad technology, and just end up in a neverending loop.

hell, they say that in a few years (i think 3) the fastest processor will be faster then a bee's brain.

theory 2:
the supply of oil/gas plummets, cars dont work, planes dont work..... the whole world economy dies. wars start solely to aquire the black gold.

I have a hard time beliving that humankind will be here to see the end of the universe... during the earths life theres been many spieces that has bloomed and then dissapeared in one way or another... I cant think why the human kind would be any diffferent. The mental evolution of humans is far too slow considering the limited resources we have available on earth. My guess is that we will run out of time to develope to a level where we can can live in peace and balance with the resources, but it remains to be seen. I wonder how the last person on earth will feel and what he or she will think when its the last day for our kind...

Hmmm. A rather thought provoking thread that is quite timely. With the whisps of the war still in the air all around us and the constant thoughts of terrorist attacks that are only a moments notice away, I can see why this has been brought up. But what surprises me is the lack of discussion in that direction. Is that because we are so confident that we have ended the possibility? Or that we never really considered this an option? Or perhaps even that we just tried to not think about this scenario for it causes more harm than good?

I am typically guilty of the third option. Living in NY and having suffered, though not as greatly as others, through 9/11, I can assure you that these thoughts do in fact enter my mind. I do not, however, think that it will be the cause of the end of life as we know it. I tend to be on the optimistic side of things, and don't really think it has that great an impact of our lifes.

As far as my predictions of the fate of humanity? I don't know. I know that I am scared of the thought of bringing a child into this world. Not so much as for my sake, but what is to become of the world in the next twenty to thirty years? That tends to scare the bejesus out of me.

I really believe that there is a very good chance that the human race will suceed at being around until the end. Yes we are poluting this place, yes we are killing ourselves and threatening to blow ourselves up, and yes we are not making much headway in the exploration of space and its potential for future life. BUT, I cannot and will not believe that we don't have the ability to move on. The advancements in technology and science within the past few decades alone have been absolutely mind boggling. Once we as a whole come to the realization that our lives are in jeopardy and that we must stop all other nonsense to correct the situation, I believe it can be done. We have yet to even scratch the surface of the largest and most plentiful source of life on this planet. The oceans.

Did I even answer the question? Heh, that got away from me a bit. I live my life one day to the next, and I try to squeeze as much out of it as possible. So if it does happen in my lifetime, I'll have no regrets, only wonderful memories to think back upon while I'm floating away into nothingness.

We as humans are to smart for our own good, and their will always be a evil element that will miscalculate there mischievous ways, in the end we will kill ourselves, by messing with nature.
