What is the Fate of Humanity?
Have you ever wondered?
Will we die by bombs or germs or chemicals in an orgamisc racial suicide? Will we polute ourselves and die the death of a thousand cuts? Will we get our act together and mature to live together in peace? Will we finally develop the technology to leave this planet and inherit the stars only to repeat with one of the above? Will our species live to see the end of this universe or will we become another footnote? What do you think? |
We are ultimately doomed, the only question is when and how. See Exit Mundi for the possibilities.
|
We're all screwed and it's for the best. I like life but I find comfort in that whatever bad things it throws at me all my suffering is garanteed to be over within a hundred years.

Re: What is the Fate of Humanity?
It don't really have an opinion one way or the other regarding whether or not we will live. If we live, I don't think that we will live together in peace. I think that people already have their "act together" and people are already "mature", but having your "act together" and being "mature" are not necessarily good for our species or good for our subjective well being.

It's too depressing to think about our fate in the future. What people should do is try to control THEIR OWN fates.
IMHO. |
See, human kind is basicly skrewed, but I really don't care, because it won't be me.

That Exit Mundi site is great!
My personal philosophy is... one infront of the other... affect what you can affect and don't worry about the rest. -Smarm |
I'm gonna kill everyone.
With one handgun. That's about it. |
You're gonna need a lot of ammo.
|
i like KWSN's response. Screw the "fate".... Do what you can. Nothing is ever set in stone unless you believe it to be. Can't say what it is tho. If we were at complete peace, then we might be worse off, as a surprise attack by someone would be simply devastating. Just do what you can to make life around you better. If everyone tries that, we won't be as doomed as some think.

Everything is screwed in the end
I'm just gonna open up another bottle of wine and find a fresh girl and hope for the best |

I'm optimistic enough that I think we'll finally get our shit together.
We will inherit the stars. Unfortunately, this will take some time and many will suffer until then. |
I am just trying to fight off entropy in my little corner. If enough of the rest of you do the same we might just inherit the stars and make rogue and James Hogan happy. Either that, or the laws of thermodynamics will eventually win out. But, by then, I will have gone the way of TFP version 3.

Humanity is DOOMed!! The end is nigh!!!
Heh. Don't worry. We'll evolve. "Life" would go on. |

The fate of humanity is to be human.
Human history is a record of what it means to be human. Species don't "go" anywhere. Sometimes they evolve into other, perhaps more survivable species. Sometimes they don't. You want my opinion of the future of humanity? More of the same. It would be better for the stars if humanity didn't inherit them. |
That's quite the avatar ART.....:D

As far as I'm concerned the world could end anytime and I would be happy, alittle hungry but otherwise fine
|
i don't know how, but i am pretty sure that the world will be devoid of all life in only a few centuries. at the rate we're going right now though, it might be sooner.
|
I suspect that eventually, we will develop the technology that will allow us to travel to the stars. Most likely about the same time we use up every available resource on this planet. I also suspect that the stars, and the planets around them, would be much better off without us ever finding them.

I'm not very optimistic about the fate of our species. It seems the more civilized we become, the less humanity we show. Just looking at the violence and suffering of the last 100 years - when we should "know better by now" - it's not too promising. I think the next 100 years will be a crossroads for our descendants - it's make it or break it time.
At least if we can reduce the chances of completely rendering this planet inhabitable for life, we may have a chance. It may involve starting over a few times, but - we'll see (figuratively speaking, of course). Our biggest obstacle to overcome will be to prioritize what's good for us as a species over what's good for us personally - and I don't know if that's possible. |

Thanks for the Exit Mundi link.
Very interesting in a morbid and frightening way. I'm going to hide under my bed now. |
Buncha fatalists.......
Sure we'll get to the stars, but on the shoulders and at the expense of the many. Just like anything worth a shit in life, you have to want it. Right now, we're content in mediocrity, but we'll get it together. We've gone from riding camels to landing on the moon all in the space of a few thousand years; I really don't think there is anything we humans can't do. |
It seems we stand on the blade of a knife, anything is possible.
I like the poem here http://64.176.94.191/article1271.htm it expresses alot of what I feel. |
I will not be alive, thus it does not matter.
|
I think that human beings will slowly incorporate technology into their bodies, and eventually babies will need to be made and not born. We will evolve ourselves into "cyborgs".
That is, if we don't blow ourselves up first. I give it 50-50 odds. |
Making a prediction, would be pointless. All predictions are usually pointless. That being said, it is one of the great unsolvable mysteries. I regret that I (probably!) will not be around to see it happeing.
Yes, call me morbid if you like, but I would really like to see how we turn out. What lies in store for us. I guess that is where the entire genre of science fiction came from. But alas, that is all our predictions can ever be, fiction. What is to come? Who knows? -C.S. Flim |
Things fall apart/ the centre cannot hold.
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world. |
I think we will die at our own hands. We will be engulfed in another World War, one that makes the first two look like a playground fight. Nuclear weapons of mass destruction will eventually wipe out the entire human race. And I hate to say it, but this will probably all be started by the good ole USA.
|
This reminds me of the south park episode where Cartman developed a "seasociety". The "seasociety" just proves that we are violent, terrible creatures and are doomed to self-destruct. The question isn't why...it's how and when. It might be sooner than you think.
|
We will be a inor footnote. The questin is when.
I may be going to hell in a bucket babe, but at least I'm enjoyin' the ride. |
I think humans will destroy themselves. I am quite often shocked and dismayed at the attitudes and actions of people in this world and often cannot help but thinking 'how much longer can this go on?'
|
We find the ultimate theory of everything and are able to move into a new, baby univers as ours winks out. Although "we" probably won't still be what we are today.
