I'm pretty crazy. Crazy enough to know crazy when I see it ;)

Really though, I think most supernatural things are just errors in human perception. I don't think human senses are infallible, and I'm pretty damn sure that their minds are not. People will see all sorts of things that they are totally convinced are true. Apply a structured, logical, and systematic test to the matter and in most cases, it will be shown to have been an error in perception.

I do not deny the possibility, only the probability.

i always (believe it or not) nit pick all supernatural anythings and try to think of logical explanations of everything; especially noises cuz rats do wonders.

that said you can't explains doors closing, knobs turning, opening, closing, knobs turning.... which I have experienced and yes i was fully awake and sober.

My question to you is this: Who says you only have FIVE senses? No I'm not making a cheap reference to a Sixth sense. Rather, you are only looking at FIVE senses.. the more PHYSICAL of the senses... now if there is more than just the tangible... wouldn't it be logical, that we would have senses for the intangible as well?

See where I'm going with this?

Does anyone else think ghosts are tremendous pussies? Lets say for a moment this ghost is for real, what is he going to do to you? Run up your water bill? Drink the last pepsi? I think you need to have a heart to heart with said ghost and evict him for being a bad roommate.

no, he did not. There are occurance people have noticed (sadly I haven't yet) where they will smell smoke in a certain area of space. But if they so much as move one inch from that space.. there is no smell of the smoke... in ANY direction. This includes when there is a draft in the room. Seeing how this is the case, it doesn't follow the description of his child smoking, and beyond that, I doubt he'd LET his child smoke.

Not really had any experiences like this myself, but my friend in NZ had a couple. One time he was playing on his old-ass Nintendo 64, when suddenly the game froze up and the screen went weird. He noticed that there appeared to be something that sounded like soft whispering coming from the box, and he crept a bit closer. The screen went blip into black and the sound went off. Then he heard, distinctly, from the TV..."Die." A few seconds passed, and then "DIE!" He ripped the plug out and almost threw the thing out the window...

As if this wasn't bad enough, a couple of years ago he woke up in a cold sweat, having just had a horrible nightmare. It was early morning, on September 12th, 2001, New Zealand Time...which corresponds with...well its not hard to guess.

I'm really, really glad nothing like this has happened to me. Just reading this thread is giving me the heebie-jeebies. Dammit, I live in an old house! Near a big graveyard! And my housemates are out...gah. Lalalalalalalala...

wow, took a while to read all of this but this is very interesting stuff.
wrkime asked in the first page why this stuff has to happen at night.
i think from the beleivers point of view it is because the spirits know we feel less secure at night, easier to scare, probably why i have the lights on now
from the skeptics point of view i would say again because we feel less secure at night and thus our senses are hightened. therefore we see, smell and perceive things with alot more imagination.
Ofcourse if some of things you all describe happened to me then i would be quite hard-pressed to justify it as imagination.

I am also very interested in gaurdian angels and animals. Although i have never felt one i sometimes like to think i have one, or imagine my grandparents or father looking over me, perhaps standing right next to me.

The only experience i can recall is when i was dog-sitting my next door neighbours dog, a small white one. anyway myself and the dog were both asleep on my bed in the middle of the night, all the lights off, when suddenly it gets up, and starts barking like mad at the middle of the room. Freaked the shit out of me. I live with cats but nothing like this has ever happened with them.

Its not so much that it happens at NIGHT, its that it happens when we're tired. Yes darkness leads to the imagination... as you can't see the lamp infront of you, so its like closing your eyes, you see what you imagine to see, thus you're more suseptable. But when you're sleeping, you're in less control, and so spirits can interact more, so to speak, so when you're getting tired....

And to note, lots of people get tired when its dark. My reasons for stating this is because I've had experiences at 8 am before.. BUT at that point in time 8 am was bedtime for me.

auswegian: Yeah I know the feeling, except I had it during the astronauts... I believe I posted that ... quite possibly on this thread.

Alright I'm not trying to scare you, but there may be someone in your house. When I was in high school, a girl in my class found out that a homeless guy had been living in her house for months and had just been avoiding the family. Then one day she was in the kitchen making a sandwich or whatever and she turned around and dude was just standing there staring at her. Of course she freaked the fuck out, winged her sandwich at him, and ran. The neighbors called the police and they took the guy away. Very freaky.

Wow, i just spent the last hour or so reading this entire thread, defenatly some freaky stuffs here, I am kinda mixed in my beliefs of paranormal/relegion/ect.
I only have a couple of things to share. The only thing i can think of that i have personally experienced is:
In 1992me and my now Ex wife had a baby that died when she was 7 weeks old. We were visiting her grave a few months after she had died. When we got back in the car to leave, i started the car, and the tach and speedo were just freaking out, the needles were swinging wildly from one side to the other, and the car was missing really bad, once we pulled out of the cemetary and on to the road it all returned to normal.

my best friend growing up (i cant remember not knowing him) has a "ghost" in his house, Everyone that lived there had seen it, mom, dad, and all 8 kids have seen it at one time or another.
it was strange, everytime someone saw it, all the plants in the house would be dead, if they woke up and the plants were all dead, they knew someone in the house had seen the ghost.

I flashed back to the night that everything went whacky in the basement and started wondering if there was something to all of these happenings.

I have noticed the same thing with my car seat being warm-at night, when it rainy, dark and cold, last night my side of the bed was warm along with my pillow-the whole side of my bed was warm. No electric blanket on and my wife was on her side of the bed and had not been on my side, freaky.

Just today as I sat down to my computer after lunch, my chair was hot, my mouse was hot and my wrist rest was hot, as though someone were just sitting here. I am now completely freaked out. I know no one was sitting at my desk while I was eating lunch because I was sitting at a round table in my cube with one of the other guys while I ate. We started eating at noon, we finished at about 1pm, after shooting the breeze for a while, then I got up from the chair at the table and sat down at my desk and everything is hot-the heat isn't on, the AC is. How fucked up is that??
I know that it has been a long time since any of that stuff happened, (well over a year ago) and I haven't read anything from you about this kind of thing that you've written recently, (aside from the mischevious toolbox thief) but as a suggestion (and because I'm really curious), why not invest in an infrared temperature/thermometer gun? I did a Froogle search for one and the cheapest/best value one is on this page:

http://www.officeshops.com/hobby/raytek.htm

Definitely get the one with the laser sight, because even if it turns out to be a waste of money in the strange experience/paranoia stuff, it is still a lot of fun to have a laser in a gun shape and be able to read the temperature off of everything you run across in the house :-) I've played with one in my dad's shop and they are a lot of fun. I think you can even use it for the grill to get the temp of the meat and test for done-ness, if you need a 'reasonable' excuse...

Fortunately, there hasn't been anything too weird worth noting lately. A couple of strange things but I'm trying to keep it real. Most of it I think can be traced to an active imagination of a tired brain....but some of it is just unexplainable.

not to be picky or whatever, but why would an apparition who smokes a pipe and knows how to use a computer play with your child's toys?

how old is the house you live in? try to find some info about it prior to your buying it.

The house I live in is about 40 years old, not sure what happened to any of the people that were here before me, but I've lived here for 10 years, so I think it might be too late to find out anything BEFORE I buy it.

As far as the pipe smoke, it was in a small spot in the upstairs hall, not near the toys or a computer. If you think this is all bullshit, then say so, I can respect that, but sarcastic questions do nothing to add to the conversation.

I'm not saying that there are ghosts, spirits or whatever, but some fucked up things happened and I thought people would find them interesting.

What a fabulous thread. It took quite a while to read it all. I haven't been to TFP in quite some time.
I've had countless paranormal experiences, but since they seem to be all around me and many of my friends and aquantances, I guess they seem ubernormal. I am glad there's a forum for people like us who can share some experiences that would generally be considered bizarre. Okay, here's a summary of a few of my stories.

I also felt myself levitating a couple of times when I was a teenager and simultaniously felt (not saw) a bright white light. This happened for only a few seconds and was trance-like.

My friend and I were visiting a chum at an all girl's school on the Isle of Wight in England. We were staying in one of the old dormitories that was empty except for a few bedrooms on the second floor which were used to accomodate parents and guests that were visiting students. This place was CREEPY and very old, in fact, the entire campus was swarming with spirits. (come to think of it, England seemed to have the buggers everywhere). We decided to just cool our jets in the room and not wander around this empty old house in the dark. We were jazzed though and ended up watching reports about the Gulf War on the tele (the 1st war). When the time difference was right my friend said he needed to call home and the only phone was on the other side of the house, down corridors and up stairwells. All pitch dark. He made me go with him because he was a pussy and thought a 5'3" 22 year old chick would protect him. I went willingly because the prospect of staying in the room alone didn't thrill me. We made the trek, cold spots, shadows, feelings of being watched....anyway, we made it. When we got back to our room, the people across the hall were being fairly loud. It sounded like they were having a party, drinking and chattering and the tle on really loud. Once we were in our room, we couldn't hear it anymore. Here's the punchline. We found out the next day that we were the only people staying in the dorm that night. Brrr....

I've got more for another day if this thread keeps going.

When I moved into my current residence, I learned from myfriends who were the previous tenants that they were all afraid to be in the house alone...especially at night. They experienced windows slamming shut, the door to the upstairs opening or closing occasionally (I removed that door before I even moved anything in) and one time a bat appeared in the stairwell with no apparent way in. Well none of this bothered me; I figured there were probably very reasonable explanations for all of it.

The houses in my town are all old. At the turn of the century this was a thriving factory village with a huge mill (stories about that place too) and the houses in my neighborhood are all duplexes that were used by the former employees and thier families. At one time this was a dry town and people had hinges on their front steps to hide their booze in. The mill is on the bridge at the bottom of the hill I live on. It's lovely but a bit neglected. Nearly everyone in town has ghost stories.

Anyway I decided that on the day I moved in I would have a couple of friend come over to help me smudge and bless the house before I started moving my stuff in. I was walking around downstairs burning the sage and so forth, when a salt shaker flew off the stove in the kitchen. Both of my friends are fairly clairvoyant and we all began trying to pick up on the enrgy of whatever was being disturbed. We all got intuitions about a young girl. The stairwell seemed to be the strongest, and let me tell you it's a steep stairwell. Wat we gathered was that this girl died falling down the stairs and she was scared, trying to get away from something. We set up an impromptu seance and protected ourselves with cobalt, sage and sweetgrass. We threw the tarot and confirmed that she was a frightened girl still trapped in that time emotionally and couldn't let go to move on. We helped her to get some courage and told her to go on her way and then the candle flared up, caught the sweetgrass on fire (which wouldn't stay lit for us when we tried) and then the carpet started to singe. We threw water on the candle and it flared up higher. I was starting to freak. I told her to please not take the house with her, I needed to live there. The flames went out, there was a gust of wind that blew right out the front window and that was that. So I thought.

The three of us went out to get some groceries and to discuss what transpired while we were away from the house. We didn't want to invite her back in by talking about her with her still hanging around outside somewhere nearby. We all felt something still in the house, but it wasn't her. It wasn't what felt like a spirit either. We felt that perhaps it was a manifestation of her fear that she had kept alive (so to speak) for so long. A father or stepfather who abused her?

We went back to the house and did another cleansing and things are generally ok. The other side of the duplex is rented by another friend. She hears footsteps on her stairwell, things fly off the counter on occasion, but they don't come over here that I know of. My former roommate will argue that point. Apparently he's actually seen the girl in the stairwell, that would've been last fall.

Only occasionally over the years I've lived here has anything else happened. The Simpsons toys would talk in the middle of the night sometimes and I would tell the ghost that it was keeping my awake and to please stop. They always did just one more then stopped (just like a kid). Another night I woke up and looked into the hallway outside my bedroom and saw in the glow of the streetlamp, a man leaning against the doorjam of the spare room. I said, "I can see you. I"m going to close my eyes and when I open them I want you gone." He was.

The next installment will be about my boss' house and the former owner (deceased) who liked to cause trouble. That is if you'd care to hear it.

wrkime, your story is just freaky. I'm amazed at how brave you are or should I say that you handle this stuff way better than I ever could. I haven't read the whole thread but bits and pieces here and there.

I know people mentioned that you should move, but I guess if its not really bothering you much then you must be getting used to the occurances. You mentioned living there 10 years so you have some amount of time spent there. I wish you luck in whatever you decide to do.

On the subject though - if you pay attention to things and are perceptive, you WILL notice things that you perhaps do not want to notice.

I also noticed that as I became closer to God and Jesus, I noticed more and more spirits trying to scare me or cross paths with me. A slight movement out of the corner of my eye, a feeling of someone in the room or outside my room, a voice in the night. It was almost as if Satan or whatever evil spirits exist were unhappy with my choices and wanted to scare me - which simply proved to me that I was persuing the path that I needed to follow.

I've got other stories and situations, none nearly as frightening as some of yours, but I totally feel the frustrations and fears that you guys have. Hang in there.

My family owns a home in California that belongs to my dad's grandmother and grandfather (since deceased). They originally built and owned it and it's been in our family since (I am 4th Generation).

One time, I was eating lunch in this home (we were staying in it for vacation). From the dining room table you can see both of the bedroom doors. While eating, I dropped my napkin off of the table and leaned over to pick it up, one of the bedroom doors slam shut. The house is old, so I figure it was a draft and somehow (I didn't want to put too much energy into it) had shut the completely open door. As I continue eating, I ended up dropping my fork on the floor, and again, leaned over to pick it up only to have the second bedroom door slam shut. I was alone in the house and freaked out to this point, I finished eating with my head down trying to preoccupy myself with something other than the bizarre situation which had just occurred. When I finished, I heard rustling over towards the doors and as I stood up I looked at both of the doors. They were both WIDE OPEN once again. I left my dishes and sat outside by the driveway, waiting for my dad to return from the store.

There have been other times when my dad and I will hear eachothers voices - clear as day - when the other is not in the house or around within calling distance.
