Feds: Face-Recognition Software Getting Much Better 100% Accuracy in Automatic Face Recognition -- Jenkins and Burton 319 (5862): 435 -- Science 100% Accuracy in Automatic Face Recognition FOXNews.com - Social Networking Sites Not Just for Friends — They're Also for the Feds - Science News | Science & Technology | Technology News Social Networking Sites Not Just for Friends — They're Also for the Feds OK, I'm not paranoid about this for myself, and I'm not sure if it will get to the point where we will be able to search adult pictures to see if someone is in them. But what happens if it goes public? What happens if Google introduces a new picture recognition search feature? Most people would use it to upload a picture of a building or something like the Grand Canyon and get more pictures or info on it. But what if you could upload a picture of a girl you met last night and see that she has done a few amateur porn videos? Or the guy that is dating your best friend was in a bunch of porn videos that he probably didn't mention to your friend. Or you are looking up someone you went to high school with and instead of typing in their name, you scan in their yearbook picture and up comes a bunch of pictures that leave nothing to the imagination, although she has probably told nobody in real life about them. Do you think this has a chance of happening or am I paranoid for no reason on this one? |

Technology is ever evolving. I don't see why it couldn't happen.

Hmmm...interesting subject. LoganSnake is correct in that technology is ever evolving. Not that it hasn't always, it's just the speed of it now. 10 years ago, I don't think that anyone could have predicted that potential employers could, much less would, use the likes of Myspace and Facebook to screen candidates for a job.
So...while ASU2003 is concerned that the guy/girl that you just met last night might use this to see if there are any skeletons in your closet, I'd be more concerned with employers using this technolgy to help thin the herd of job candidates. In fact, I could come up with dozens of nefarious uses for this type of technology.

It would certainly make the "Where and I in Canada" game much easier.

I wouldn't be so sure that the feds don't do this already in background checks. As for other employers, I bet a few of them would do it as well if there was more than one interview. And I bet reporters would love this to dig up dirt on people.
