Before I met my late wife, I had a dream about something that happened to her before I met her... I think I probably dreamt about it *while* it was happening, but we didn't actually meet until more than ten years later, and it wasn't until years after that that she mentioned the incident and some time even after that before I recalled the dream... Could be, I'm just nuts.
Actually, slightly off-topic, but it was a dream that made me propose to my wife too. I dreamt she fell off the back of my motorcycle and died, and it was at that moment when I woke from my dream in a cold sweat that I actually realized how much she meant to me. I told her that too, later, but she pretty much thought I was nuts. It was the reason I got rid of my bike, though. Strangely enough it wasn't long after she passed away that I decided to go buy another bike...

Fiction, in my book. You spend roughly two hours every night dreaming. That adds up to over five years of dreaming over 70 years. It's only natural that certain elements from dreams play out in real life by coincidence. Also, I'd think you are more likely to remember a dream that does come true, as a simple matter of association (call it Deja Vu, or whatever). That's how I view it, at any rate.

I will risk outing myself as a fruitcake and admit that I used to get dreams like this. I absolutely can't explain it, but there were about 10 of them in a short time period that "came true". Most of them were of absolutely no significance, I had no control over them, they all happened within a 1-2 year time frame and they haven't happened since. I've only ever tried telling someone about them once, because I realize it sounds totally crazy. In each case, there was a snapshot image or occurrence in the midst of other dream-style randomness that later ended up happening. I know what you mean about odds, Darth_Kettch, but these things were very specific. The short version of a long example is that I inherited this ring when a relative passed away. I dreamed that I found it under a chair, broken in three pieces. In real life, maybe a week later, I pulled my hand out of my pocket and noticed my ring was gone. I'm sure you know the punch line: It was in my pocket, in three pieces. Maybe subconsciously I knew my ring was fragile, etc. Who knows? It's tough to attribute the subconscious to all of my experiences though. All I can tell you is that these things happened enough to really make me think about it. I wrote them down a long time ago because I knew that in the future I'd think that I'd imagined it.
Anyhow, I have no explanation. I can only vouch for such experiences and offer my self-declared sanity for authenticity. I've done some recreational thinking about the assumption that time is linear, parallel universes, etc. |

I will be a fruitcake too (I LOVE fruitcake btw)
I have what I refer to as my "plane" dream. Since I was a child I have it anytime there is some kind of air disaster (I would say plane crash, but I was having it at the exact time that the last space shuttle exploded) Maybe its because I sleep different from normal people lol who knows. But I spend WAY more than two hours dreaming. The last two sleep studies I've had proved out of 6 and 7 hours sleeping I spent 5 1/2 and 6 hours respectively dreaming. (I dont hit all the sleep stages when I sleep....I completely skip 2 and only spent 3.78 minutes according to the report in another one)

i'm not going to call anyone a fruit cake on this. for the past 5 years, whenever i split up with the ex-bf, i had dreams of him coming back. which happened on each occassion.
currently, for the past month they were very strong during the first 4 weeks, but thankfully they're going down somewhat. i still dream that he's coming back, i just have other dreams that surround that one. crazy? maybe... hopeful? maybe... no clue here to be honest. i've had alot of other dreams over the years that have came about. some i wouldn't dare to speak to anyone about since they did happen later on.

I've had premonition-like dreams on a few occasions, and hubby has had quite a few of them. His are more like...that time before you are completely asleep yet not awake...and are often very vivid and very lifelike. It's weird, but fascinating

I am a complete believer in psychic dreams. I also believe that some of my most insightful moments come when I'm barely awake, its like once we enter the conscious world we become more skeptical of our intuitive selves.

I have had dreams like this throughout my whole life, starting in grade school. They were more prevalent when I was young, but I still have them occasionally. They were never anything "big" but more premonitions of certain mundane activities. Like I could almost always tell you what score I would get on a test, without even knowing how many questions were on it. I was always right on the dot.

It's not that you dream of the future -it's the significance that you ascribe to it and what you do with it. So if I have a dream of the future and I just forget about it because I don't really see any significance -then it really doesn't matter -does it?

I have made a number of predictions in my life, some while dreaming others while not. Most of the time I predict things in dream they are global (I saw 9/11 for example.. that was back in 1998) I remember my dreams vividly and I know at the time, a few times while still dreaming, if it's a prophetic dream.
Since I have the forum and it's a dream I love retelling I might as well tell you about my 9/11, mostly because I made alot of predictions, all of which have come true and several of which it is not yet time to come true. Like I said I had the dream in the summer of 1998. The dream itself took place in the future. I didn't actully see the events I just learned of them. I am going to state these exactly as I remember hearing them, whether you wanna believe I actully saw it like this at the time or not is up to you... 2000: President would be elected, closesly related to George Bush (Senior of course, also was made clear that it didn't have to be a blood relative, could just as easily be close to him politically) election would be very close and disputed but true victor would win (not a statement just what the prediction was... for the record) Second week of sept 2001: Major terrorist attack would happen in New York City. Arab terrorist would be responsible. In response first we would attack one country justly then another country unjustly. 2003: The war starts 2004: Bush (again, didn't know his name at the time but was "same person") relected, far from a landslide 2008: Democrat is elected president. Male. Dark skinned. (I currently believe that this may be Obama but the dream was not nearly clear enough in order for me to say this for certain) Late 2007 to early 2008: Other arab countrys get overtly involved in "the war" Late 2007 to early 2008(unclear on which of these takes place first): Second terrorist attack on US, Roughly of the same caliber as 9/11, Either in new york, dallas or most likely St Louis. Between 2008-2012: Other nations get involved in war, Entire middle east is inflamed. Every nation in the world has a side except for China... which is working for its own means. 2012: Uniformed ground troops invade U.S. soil. 2015: Nukes used, dunno by whom or where but within the next several years they will be used by most all sides.. pretty much everywhere. sometime between 2025-2050: The war ends, humanity finds unity and peace for the first time.. ever. Although there was some veiled references to "outside enemys" though I don't know to what that refers..
