Why does Sigur Ros suck now?
Aegitis Byrnjum (sp?) was one of the best albums ever recorded. Every song was a masterpiece, with a wide dynamic range, actual verse-chorus structure, and amazing variety
() was not as good, as every song was very derivative of the last. Plus having nearly every song repeat that same damned lyric was annoying. Every song was slower than the previous album, and seemed to trade great melody and dynamics for "Icelandic atmospheric soundscapes" Now we have Takk... , which despite repeated listenings, I find a monumental bore. The album is absolutely flatlined in dynamics...one long low energy snoozefest. It's almost as if the band is turning into what the critics have described them as: all ethereal and atmospheric and dreamy. While that was somewhat true in the first record, there were also great SONGS, which sadly have gone away. This band held so much promise for me after I picked up AB, but I grow more and more disappointed with their recent efforts. What do other Sigur Ros fans think?

is awesome!

I'm actually of the opinion that they were never that great to begin with. I did hold on to the first one until the second came out, then I sold them both. It's just really dreary to me, maybe if I had enough opium I could enjoy them. I'd probably O.D. first though.

Well I could sing along to songs on AB (sorta, didn't know the words, but you know what I mean). The new one has nothing memorable at all.

My guess is that if they put out Ágaetis Byrjun as their 4th album instead of Takk, we'd be talking about how much it sucks. The thing is, when Ágaetis Byrjun came out, it was unlike anything most people had ever heard before. Now that people are used to their sound, it doesn't seem so special or interesting to them. Even though they've been my favorite band since the beginning, I kinda feel the same way. That said, it's ridiculous to say that they suck since they're still better than 99.9% of the bands out there.

I really like () the best... the first half of the album reminds me of twilight during the winter, and the second 4 songs reminds me of midnight to daybreak looking out at a windblown snowy field.
Agaetis Byrjun has some good songs, but I don't like the whole album.. I think Takk is boring too, all the songs seemed to similar in feel to me.. |
