Guitarists Alias's

Hmm so how many guitarist out there have alias's? I'm not familiar with all of them..But like for example they call Eric Clapton "Slow Hand" and Randy Rhoads "Lord Of The Strings" so what other guitarists have a signature alias?

Hahaha, nice. On that note, you could really take any synonym for "wanker" and slap it in between "Steve" and "Vai".

Donald Roeser of Blue Öyster Cult goes by Buck Dharma (and rulez!!!!)

Ted Nugent is the Motor City Madman.

Not on the same order, but Joe Satriani is often referred to as Satch.

my bass player referes to me as Jake "Holy F&^k" Hanlon from time to time (LOL).

But then again he's stoned half the time

Yeah lots of them. I like the Wanker comment. Malmsteen is insane with the chops but not insane with any sort of feeling or hipness. Oh look, I can do 6 string sweeps up from fret 1 to fret 19 with 32nd notes grouped in 6. Great, you could teach a smart monkey to sweep, but I bet a monkey has more soul (sorry to shred fans)

Strangely I'm drawing a blank. Short of BB King called the King of the Blues and Bonnie Raitt as Queen of the Blues I'm trying to figure out a few of them besides those already mentioned here. I heard a famous Jazz drummer refere to Pat Methany as "Pat my Weenie", and thought that was quite funny.

John Scofield - Sco. of course Jazz fans would know Sco anyway, to most he's "Who the hell if John Scofield".

Jimi Hendrix is refered to in my Studio as - Jesus
SRV refered to as - The Holy Ghost

For me it's not even that, there's just never been a time where I've been writing a song (an actual, song not a show peice ) and said to myself "Hmmm Nick, I think I need to add a bagillion notes in three seconds here, then I'll end with the world's most masturbatory sweep picking ever." Sure it sounds cool when used in moderation but that's just about it. I love Vai though, the different patterns and layers of sound he makes with his uber-tapping skills blows my freakin' mind!!!

I often refer to Allan Holdsworth as "Howthef Uckdidhe Dothat", and most other guitarists I refer to as "The Guy From (insert band name here)" which works 99% of the time .

Haha Holdsworth is Eddie Van Halen's favorite guitarist.

I forgot about Buck and the Nuge...those guys kick ass. I noticed the other day that Sammy Hagar's guitarist goes by Bill "Electric" Church

I strongly disagree on this. Steve Vai is one of the most talented guitarists in the world. He has chops, he has extensive musical knowledge, and he is one of the most creative, original musicians out there. A "wanker," he is not. A virtuoso, he is.

The strongest part of Via is his writing. As a guitarist he's a virtuoso but I think Satch owns him (being his teacher of so many years)

Still I think listening back to Erruption being the longest musical jerk off of all time. But still it's pretty impressive to listen to now. Van Hallen and Hendrix between the two of them spawned Rock guitar in every way changing the instrument forever.

Holdsworth is incredible as well. Picking guitarists however is like apples vs oranges, or one man's trash is another's treasure. I know a guy who's an insane guitarist who worships Malmsteen. But as I said previously, I don't like him at all. But that's just Shred in general as a style I do not like.

I thought about it all day while I was teaching and I couldn't think of any other alias. I guess Stevie Ray Vaughn is SRV, I don't know how much of an Alias that is though.

But boy could play the blues.

I think bass guitarists should count too. I mean it's a guitar too it's just a bass...John Entwizzle(sp?) was called "The Ox" wasn't he?

Hey, don't get me wrong guys, I love Vai. I think he's great. But he certainly is capable of the most astounding wankerage. For examplay:

Sisters: Brilliant, heartfelt, a masterpeice.

The Mysterious Murder of Christian Tiera's Lover: Pure filth. Yeah, it's still cool in an oh-my-god-is-he-really-doing-that-to-his-guitar kind of way, but still... so very filthy.

A lot of what I hear of Vai's stuff I really consider to be filler, with a few gems (snigger) in between. But when they're gems... my god are they ever gems. I think Steve is completely capable of being a wanker, but he does know the value of moderation, unlike some, and for this I (we) applaude him. The main reason I personally bestow the title of wanker on him is being a guitar man myself, I watch him on stage, hand firmly planted on his cock, all I can think is "You utter cunt, Steve." He knows he's good, and he can keep it in his pants when he knows best, and thats what makes him great.

Why is Clapton called "Slow Hands"? Do you know? The only two I could think of were Slash from GnR/Velvet Revolver and The Edge from U2.

Yer supposed to be able to see it when he plays. If you look at his hands when he plays something fast..it appears as if his hands are barely moving or something like that I think...not sure. Could just be how he plays though...Ya know..soft n slow at times...like on Wonderful Tonight.
