Need a Song - Grandfather Related
This is my first post here. I usually don't have to post because the information I need has already been posted. I love this place!
I'm creating a video for my Grandfather for Christmas and I need a background song for it. I've searched Google high and low but I still haven't found a good song. The song has to be sweet sounding ... slow prefably. The kids call him Grandpa or Paw-Paw (in the south) Any type of music will do. Thank you in advance for any help! |

Many of you may or may not agree with this, but research has shown that the *approximate* age at which people form their first strong emotional bond with music is age 14. Therefore, I would figure out which year your grandfather was 14 and pick music from that era. For example, if he was born in 1932, then put some Tommy Dorsey in there.

I would suggest Stephen Lynch:Grandfather Die , but then I would truly burn in hell.
Just kidding. Don't hurt me. The song title is clicky if you want to read the lyrics for a good laugh.

How about "Secret o' Life" by James Taylor?
Seek out the studio version (it's the most beautiful) but if you want to hear how it goes, you can hear a live (wobbly) version here, last song on the page.

Might I suggest Trans-Siberian Orchestras Old City Bar. First, it has a Christmas theme. Second, it is heartbreakingly beautiful in both melody and lyric. Definitely give it a listen.

If instrumental songs are okay, Bill Frisell's rendition of "Shenandoah" on his Good Dog Happy Man album might be a good pick. You can listen to a clip on the Amazon page for it here:

Mrs Mephisto and I were watching TV yesterday and she switched channels to Oprah. I actually quite enjoy her shows usually, unless they git a bit too moist, but this one was a bit OTT. It was some "World's Largest Baby Shower" thing they hosted in a Southern Army base.
Anyway, my point is that they had some song on it about a guy who is pissed off at having a baby, then learns to love it. It was called "There goes my life" and, whilst I don't really like C&W at all, I thought it was rather sweet. There goes my life by Kenny Chesney Quote:
I guess it's more of a father/daughter song, but still... Mr Mephisto |

How about "Grandpa (Tell Me `Bout the Goold ol' Days)" by the Judds?
